In this East Asia Forum article, Muyi Yang and I at Australia-China Relations Institute, University of Technology Sydney, argue: Working with China is key to global decarbonization efforts, yet it is often seen as a risk in the clean technology sector—spanning solar panels, batteries, and electric vehicles. Dependence on these technologies highlights vulnerabilities in global supply chains. Establishing a clean-tech ecosystem in the Asia-Pacific offers a promising strategy by leveraging Chinese technological expertise and industrial capabilities. This collaborative approach, rather than reverting to fragmentation, will drive clean industrialization, ensuring access to markets, innovation, and financial resources essential for the region’s sustainable and prosperous future.

It’s an honor to share this journey with visionary leaders, academics, and policymakers dedicated to innovation and sustainability.
