At the 2014 Leadership Development Institute student conference, the first CareerTrackers 10-year partnership was signed by Craig Laslett, then-Managing Director of Leighton Contractors (now known as CPB Contractors). The new initiative established a goal of persuading 10 companies to sign a formal contract to partner with CareerTrackers for 10 Years (10x10). This meant raising the accountability and expectations of both CareerTrackers and our partners. In committing to 10 years of partnership, these companies serve as CareerTrackers' backbone in preserving our program for the benefit of all future First Nations students around Australia. "CareerTrackers isn’t just about university - it's about shaping Australia’s future leaders through support, fellowship, and a focus on success." Women make up 80% of PK-12 educators but hold only 24% of superintendent roles. The upcoming GVSU Educational Leadership and Counseling event, Women in Leadership Discussion Panel and Q&A, will shed light on women's unique challenges in education. The event panelists—leaders across PK-12 and higher education—will share their experiences, discuss the growing number of female students in leadership programs, and offer insights into overcoming obstacles on the path to leadership. While the focus is on women in leadership, male leaders and aspiring male leaders are encouraged to attend. Understanding these dynamics is essential to building a more inclusive leadership team. Gudrun Nyunt and I contributed an article to Kroll, Manning-Ouellette, & Beatty's Facilitating Leadership Development in Training Contexts titled "Incorporating an international perspective in leadership training." For leadership educators to be more effective, we advocate heeding the voices of international students and colleagues, examining the legacy of colonialism, and engaging as humble and curious learners. The article offers insights on how leadership educators can enhance all students' leadership learning by adopting an internationalist perspective, challenging the canon, and paying greater attention to the processes of learning. Do your parents influence your leadership effectiveness? This novel research identifies an association between parental leadership influence, leadership experience, leadership education, age, and gender with leadership effectiveness. Findings include the predictors accounting for 19% of the change in leadership effectiveness. No other research asserts an association between parental leadership influence and adult leadership effectiveness. The findings also raise questions about the value of classroom leadership education compared to experiential leadership education. The research is accessible at https://lnkd.in/eTtvXHdw

In a well-traveled career... I've discovered that being a great leader often means learning from all the things that my bad leaders did. Heck, a R60k leadership development course at that prestigious university could never quite capture the "real-life curriculum" I've picked up through my experiences. On the flip side, the good leaders I've had? Absolute gems. They’ve shaped me so much that I’ll definitely be using their tactics in my own leadership journey. In fact, that same R60k course could serve as a handy way to document what I've learned, slapped with a ‘competent’ badge on my experiences, and remind me just how brilliant my mentors truly were. One day is one day, right? LOL 😄 To those on their own leadership path: Keep learning from the greats, but don’t discount the lessons from the ‘not-so-greats.’ Stay the course despite everything... You've got this!!!
