On Inspiring UAE National Day I present My Idea: DUBAI HOMEMADE DESIGNER CLOTHES FASHION EXHIBITION HH Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Dubai Culture & Arts Authority I propose Dubai Government to hold an annual “Dubai Homemade Designer Clothes Fashion Exhibition” in which housewives, tailors and other such people who can prepare dresses of different kinds will be invited to showcase their work, to come up with their own ideas of fashion and styles in dresses. In the exhibition the exhibitors will also be allowed to sell their dresses and get orders and contracts from bigger businesses. The purpose of my idea is: 1) To widen the scope of business activities at the grassroots levels in Dubai. 2) To include segments of population such as housewives, small scale tailors, etc., into mainstream business. 3) To elevate further Dubai’s status as the most business friendly city in the world. This exhibition will help many people in Dubai to become proper businessmen and businesswomen; it will also help big companies to find people with creative ideas in dress fashion designing and it will contribute to increasing economic activities in Dubai. #UAE #Dubai

Dubai, Strategic Vision, Kemal Derviş, Tayyip Erdoğan, and Opportunities By Mehmet Öğütçü July 29, 2024 When I think of Dubai, I’m reminded of its 3,000-year history and its visionary leader, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who transformed it from a small fishing village into the metropolis it is today. Iconic mega projects such as the Burj Khalifa, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Marina also come to mind, along with the impressive real estate developments that continue to attract investors from all over the world. During my diplomatic career, I visited this city many times. While stationed in Beijing, I would often spend a few days in Dubai or Sharjah during my travels. My first significant business visit to Dubai occurred nearly a quarter of a century ago, in the early 2000s. At the time, I was leading the OECD’s Middle East and North Africa Investment Program and working closely with Maktoum's team. In return for their financial contribution to our program, we gave them a prominent role as co-chair. Later, Sheikh Mohammed offered me the opportunity to establish and manage the Dubai International Commodities Exchange, but we couldn’t agree on the compensation package. Paris and the OECD seemed more appealing at the time. Another memory from Dubai is meeting Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the first time in 2003, when he was Prime Minister. Strategic Vision What impressed me most about this city-state, despite the climate not being particularly appealing to me, was its smart strategic vision and the effective way it implemented it.
