Effective mentorship provides the ability to accelerate learning and skill development. I have mentored others, and previously had the great benefit of being mentored. In recent weeks, the topic keeps coming up in discussions with my mentee. It’s the best form of amplifying and encouraging growth. When managers speak of ‘bench strength’ I don’t think they consider it without acknowledging how team talent is fostered and shared; so, if we want to solve issues with the ‘talent pipeline’ and job application processes, we need to do better with our approach. Find a mentor. Be a mentor.

Get Yourself a Mentor in Your Early Years. As someone who only embraced mentorship later in my career, I can confidently say it has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. While I’ve been fortunate to have supportive managers who saw my potential and pushed me to grow, I had never actively sought mentorship beyond my workplace or industry. But when I finally did, it gave me a broader perspective and a clearer view of my career path. For those unsure of how to find a mentor, I encourage you to join platforms and communities that emphasize mentorship. Through WIMBIZ’s 6-month mentorship program, I had the privilege of being mentored by Jumoke, whose wisdom and support have been invaluable. Here are the key lessons I’ve learnt about the value of mentorship: 📌 Objective guidance: A mentor offers an outside perspective, providing clarity on the bigger picture. 📌 Experience matters: A mentor’s past experiences help you navigate challenges and avoid common mistakes. 📌 Expanding your network: Mentorship often introduces you to new people and opportunities, opening doors you may not have considered. 📌 Personal growth: Beyond career advice, mentors can impact your personal development, building confidence and self-awareness. 📌 Accountability: Mentors help you stay focused and committed to your goals by offering support and holding you accountable. Mentorship is a powerful tool that can accelerate both personal and professional growth. Don’t wait—seek out a mentor and unlock new possibilities for your journey. Q. What's your thought about mentorship?

Why You Should Make Mentorship a Priority in Your Life and Career Journey. 🔵 Why It Matters: A mentor isn’t just a guide; they’re a catalyst for growth. They boost your confidence, enhance emotional well-being, and sharpen your problem-solving skills. Kim Scott, author of Radical Candor, is right on this when she highlights these benefits, and I couldn’t agree more. 🔵Why Organizations Need Mentors: Mentorship isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s a strategic asset. With 70% of Fortune 500 companies embracing mentorship programs, it’s clear that connecting experienced employees with newcomers strengthens community, promotes collaboration, and builds a thriving organizational culture. 🔵When to Lean on Mentorship: Mentorship becomes important when stepping into a new, more senior role. A seasoned mentor offers the guidance and encouragement needed to navigate new responsibilities with confidence. 🔵A critical tip: For mentorship programs to thrive, they must be actively championed by leadership. It’s essential that time be dedicated for mentors and mentees to connect meaningfully. 🔵How to Find a Mentor: 👉 Define what you’re seeking in a mentor before starting your search. 👉 Look within your organization for existing programs. 👉 Discuss your career development goals with your manager. 👉 Explore external mentoring platforms. 👉 Attend networking events, both virtual and in-person. 👉 Stay flexible in your approach and commitment. 🔵Final Thought: Having an inspiring mentor is like unlocking a treasure chest of knowledge and skills. They challenge your thinking, push you beyond your comfort zone, and help you achieve your goals. So, why wait? Seek out a mentor who will not only guide you but also challenge you to grow. What’s in it for me/you?: New study explores how motives shape #mentoring https://lnkd.in/eEj8iRaH Implications for Mentoring Programs: 💡 Mentor training and supervision should discuss the role of motivation on mentee outcomes and further strategies to address motivation 💡 Mentoring programs may want to consider assessing mentor motivation prior to program recruitment, to maximize mentor engagement and mentee outcomes 💡 Programs may further consider partnering with researchers to assess mentor motivation longitudinally, and examine the connection between motivation type and mentee outcomes over time

Happy National Mentoring Day! 6 months ago at Connectd we launched our first pilot test for a mentoring program. So far it's been a huge success with thanks to the talents of people like Claudia Stankler & William Smith! We're about to relaunch as we've experienced significant growth and interest in the program. Big shout out to Renée Chinakwe-Venn who's secured not one but two mentors since joining the team. You can never have enough mentorship, it serves as a continuous source of guidance and growth for both individuals and businesses. Benefits for mentees: 1. Development: constructive feedback, helping mentees hone both hard and soft skills. Helps gain clarity around goals, adds accountability. 2. Perspectives: see the broader picture and understand alternative approaches to problems. 3. Motivation: Regular encouragement from a mentor boosts self-confidence, resilience, and motivation. For Mentors & Businesses: 1. Talent & Leadership Development: Mentorship programs help nurture emerging talent, making people feel valued. 2. Problem-Solving: Mentorship disc discussion promotes thinking critically and addresses challenges effectively. 3. Culture: strong mentorship culture boosts morale, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose. My favourite thing about our mentorship programme is that it's 2-way. You get to have a turn as a mentor and mentee. Imagine 3 months of being mentored by our CEO Roei Samuel & then having the exciting task of providing mentorship in return. That's what one of our superstars Francesca Galano did, something she tells me she's enjoyed massively. Can't wait to see the impact all of this has on the next 6 months.

Mentoring is evolving, and it's time for us to rethink how we engage with our mentees. The traditional "one-size-fits-all" model no longer works. In my latest article for Psychology Today, I explore the importance of personalising mentoring to meet the unique needs of each individual. Whether it's adapting to different learning styles or supporting neurodivergent professionals, tailored approaches create meaningful growth for both mentor and mentee. 🔗 Read more below #Mentoring #LeadershipDevelopment #PersonalGrowth #WorkplaceCulture #InclusiveLeadership National Mentoring Day Association of Business Mentors (ABM)

One thing I would add to our well researched list is that while there's a bit of concentrated effort to set them up, mentoring programs should create more EASE. Wouldn't we all like a bit more ease in our lives? Observance of some of these proven practices ultimately makes things go smoothly. Ease should definitely be a KPI right along with value to the organization. As one of our clients says, "Ahhh. I like this 'cause once it's up and running, it's just plug in and go." There is a fallacy out there that mentoring programs are too complicated. Not true. Systems like crosspollinate.ai take the "combinatorial mathematics" and who-goes-with-who headaches out of the matching. Not everything about building a great culture and a learning organization has to be hard. Try #mentoring!

Mentorship: A Powerful Path to Transformation 💪 Mentorship goes beyond advice—it's a journey of growth, discovery, and empowerment. Having someone invested in your success can be a profound experience, shaping both your career and your personal outlook. Here are some unique ways mentorship can make an impact: 👉 Perspective Shifting: Mentors bring fresh perspectives, helping you see challenges from new angles. This can spark creative solutions and encourage you to approach situations with a more open mind. 👉 Accountability Boost: With a mentor, you have someone who checks in on your progress and holds you accountable to your goals. This support can keep you motivated and focused on achieving what you set out to do. 👉 Emotional Resilience: Mentorship isn’t just professional; it also builds emotional strength. Having a mentor’s guidance during difficult times can help you bounce back from setbacks and view obstacles as learning opportunities. 👉 Customized Pathways: A mentor can help you craft a career path that’s unique to your strengths and aspirations, tailoring their advice to fit your personal vision for success. 👉 Confidence to Take Risks: Mentors often encourage you to take calculated risks that push you beyond what feels comfortable. This can lead to significant breakthroughs, helping you make strides that might otherwise seem out of reach. 👉 Strengthening Decision-Making: Working with a mentor can refine your decision-making skills, as they guide you through weighing options and assessing potential outcomes with greater clarity. 👉 Identifying Blind Spots: A mentor can help you identify areas for improvement that you might not see on your own. This awareness enables you to work on specific skills or habits that will make you stronger in the long run. 👉 Inspiring Lifelong Learning: Good mentors instill the importance of continuous learning and adaptability, essential traits in today’s rapidly changing professional landscape.
