🏃♂️🔥 The Sprint Mechanics Assessment Score (S-MAS) 🔥🏃♀️ Our latest publication is now available open access in AJSM. The S-MAS was developed as a solution to the practical challenges of assessing sprint running mechanics in applied settings. https://lnkd.in/e_RzKRSs Sprint mechanics are considered an important piece of the hamstring🦵injury risk 🤕 management puzzle 🧩 However assessing mechanics in-field is challenging: With limited methods ❌ and practitioners restricted to their eye 👁️ to assess the complexity of sprint mechanics. We work with many clubs to help the assessment process. Using 3D motion capture to provide detailed insights⚙️📊🔎 for individual athletes/ players. But, this cannot be implemented for whole squads due to cost 💵 and time 🕰️ The S-MAS was developed as a solution to this problem. Providing practitioners with an in-field ⚽️ quick and reliable ✅method to assess mechanics associated with Hamstring strain injuries. The score 📈uses a 12 point criteria to rate the overall quality of sprint running mechanics. ⬆️ score 🟰 suboptimal mechanics 🏃♂️👎 ⬇️ score 🟰 optimal mechanics 🏃♀️👌✅ Criteria are clear & easy to follow helping practitioners build confidence in assessing sprint running mechanics which can be targeted in injury prevention & rehab processes. It obviously doesn’t provide the detail of 3D motion capture. But provides a practical solution to an applied problem. 😉 Have a read and share your thoughts.

Interesting. It thus provides directions for the use of the best dynamic postures. Okay, but now how do we make sure that the athlete learns and makes these new postures instinctive? Even if I start today, how much time might be needed to achieve a sufficient degree of automatism?

Whereas I appreciate the focus was on injury prevention does the data provided allow for areas of potential speed development?

Congratulations Chris Bramah. Your hard work will no doubt save some talented athletes time away from the sports they love. I imagine this can lead to a significant cost saving for clubs who invest in their people but also the contribution and wellbeing of the athletes. Fascinating insights; almost a quarter of soccer injuries are hamstrings and almost half of those from poor sprinting mechanics. Back to the track we go. Now it's time to focus on you and yours. 👏🏼
