Better Planet Schools is an environmental education program designed for children aged 7 to 11. Schools can sign up for a year (three academic terms) and gain access to our interactive website, exclusively designed for participating teachers. Each year, schools choose 3 'modules', with each module representing a term's work on a new environmental topic. These modules contain lesson plans, presentations, and plenty of ideas for taking action as a school to address key environmental issues. Flexibility is key! Use the materials as part of your curriculum or for your eco club activities. Even using some resources to help children take action for the environment makes a difference. And it works! Schools in our pilot project saved 10-15% of their energy usage through behaviour change alone when engaging in pupil-led energy saving! Plus, participating schools get access to free additional content, including mini modules, advice guides, and entry into a termly prize draw when submitting end-of-module reports. MY LEARNINGS.........WORKSHOP 4 TOPIC: DESIGNING ACTIVITIES FOR CLIMATE ACTION. Designing activities for climate action means designing activities to teach students about climate change. We can't talk about climate change without talking about life on land, life on water and your environment. In teaching students about climate change, one have to consider their age, interest, abilities and learning style. 🔷 Methods Used To Engage Students. Storytelling, Discussions, Play Method, Field Trips, Outdoor Learning Experiences, Inviting Guest Speakers, Debates and Nature Connection Activities. 🔹It is necessary to know the total number of students in your class. 🔹Classify them according to their learning style( some are visual learners) 🔹 Identify those with disabilities (not just physical disability but also learning disability). In defining climate change: Responses given by students determines the teachers definition of the topic. Let the students understand why the environment is important to them. 🔹An educator need to be mindful of what he/she tell the students. 🔹Be mindful to create contents that relate to their age and environment. 🔹 Make sure to create a safe and learning environment. 🔷 Monitoring and Evaluation Method. An educator should try to get feedback from the students. It could be in form of a questionnaire, oral questions and so on. #AIIDEVAfrica #teach4sdgs #teach4sdgsimpact #EducationforSustainableDevelopment
