Today, we stand with thousands of communities and organizations across the country for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. This is not only a day of reflection but a powerful reminder of the ongoing impacts of residential schools, colonialism, and systemic injustice. The legacy of residential schools extends far beyond the loss of language, culture, and identity. The destruction of Indigenous food systems, traditions, and relationships with the land is a direct result of policies meant to sever Indigenous peoples from their roots. These systems were essential to the health, well-being, and sustainability of Indigenous communities—and their loss has had devastating consequences for food sovereignty. As an organization committed to building sustainable food systems, we recognize that true reconciliation cannot happen without supporting Indigenous-led agriculture and farming. By amplifying Indigenous voices and initiatives, we can begin to address the harm done and move toward a future where Indigenous food systems thrive once again. On this day, we urge you to do more than reflect. Engage with the truth, listen to Indigenous peoples, and take meaningful steps toward reconciliation. We met Roy Barton of Dirty Hands Farm when he shared one of our clips to show his community how he approaches the health of his soils, family, and community. Roy and his father-in-law were kind enough to share their experience with adaptive multi-paddock (AMP) grazing in Northern Florida, and the conceptual challenges new regenerative farmers can face as they embrace nature. Small-scale producers face several challenges, including limited access to abattoirs for processing livestock. Other challenges for small-scale producers include land availability and affordability, access to markets, and regulatory barriers. Despite these challenges, the small-scale farming sector in Victoria continues to thrive, driven by passionate producers who are committed to sustainable farming practices, community engagement, and delivering high-quality products to consumers. The results and recommendations from the Small Farms Count survey will hopefully provide a greater understanding to policymakers on how to support this important sector's successful growth, prosperity and resilience. The more small-scale farmers and those intending on farming that fill in this survey, the better. The need for reliable data is real.

VICTORY! Guardians, we got a great ruling from the 10th Circuit on Monday that found the U.S. Forest Service violated NEPA on multiple fronts when it adopted a 2020 amendment for the Thunder Basin National Grassland -- one of the best remaining native grasslands for sustaining future black-footed ferret reintroductions. A functioning democracy is critically important in interrupting and halting our current extinction crisis. We must protect all of our relatives no matter how small. #keystonespecies #functioningdemocracy This win was a longtime in the making.
