🧀 A couple of months ago a major cheese producer told me you can’t refer to vegan cheese as, er, cheese in case it confused people who were looking for cheese cheese (does that all make sense?!). Well I will refer to it as cheese and I hope consumers looking for dairy cheese DO try vegan cheese because the innovation in taste, texture and quality is off the scale. Huge congrats to all the vegan brands who did so well in the recent Global Cheese Awards (including Vegan Trademark holders🌻)👇 We know cheese is one of the key reasons people struggle to stick with a vegan diet, so these brilliant brands are true pioneers for the category. #vegan #veganfood #sustainability #cheese #plantbased

This is 99% real chicken made from cultivated cells, and she says it tastes just like the real thing. Here’s my take: While it’s a fascinating innovation, I wouldn’t eat it regularly. I’m content with the vegan options we have. Plus, did you know there are bans on cultivated meat in some places? Those Vegan Cowboys (TVC), headquartered in Belgium and founded in 2019, produces caseins using precision fermentation, a process that uses no animal inputs, making its dairy proteins vegan-friendly. Traditionally derived from bovine milk, casein is responsible for many of the taste and textural properties of cheese, such as stretching and melting. The new partnership with Hochland aims to take the start-up’s cheese developments to the next level, with TVC’s CEO, Hille van der Kaa, describing the joint development agreement as an “important next step on the route to commercialization”. Nice idea Quorn, but unfortunately if suspect it wont work and it may confuse the consumer about what your brand is. There have been lots of attempts at blended solutions in North America and Europe - and for good reason. They address much of the taste challenge of plant-based foods, offer some of the health benefits of plant-based foods and so what's not to like? Fewer animals die, fewer carbon emissions too. The problem is that consumers don't seem to understand the offer or relate to it. They blend their diets over different meals and don't seem to be looking for a blended solution in a sausage or a burger. As far as I know, no blended solutions have really taken a hold in any market. Consumers reject them. And in trying the idea, there is a risk to the Quorn brand that its vegetarian credentials are diluted. I hope this works. But I suspect it won't
