Bright and early this week, we're delighted to reveal Employee of the Week at Better Strategic Consultancy Ltd. The past few weeks have seen stiff competition for the prize, but this week there is a clear winner... While Claire Irving has worked hard and produced an excellent lunch on Tuesday, Siobhan has kept us on track with values, sourced some excellent photo content and written a blog, at the same time as building her own shelves from scratch. This level of dedication and competence cannot go unrewarded... So, this week's Employee of the Week is... Siobhan Meaker. The mug will be handed over in a layby off the A259, near big Lidl, for a week in prime locale on her new shelves. Keep your eyes peeled for our Spotify Wrapped big reveal next week 👀 #Values #CharityConsultant #BusinessConsultant #Shelves

✨ The Legend of Joey Hammer ✨ Every team has a story that defines its culture—here’s ours on Team PowerHaus at Goodway Group. Once upon a time, we faced a critical campaign challenge. We needed urgent help from a vendor partner, but… crickets. Time was ticking, and frustration was mounting. Enter Joey Hammer (yes, a real person—and probably still clueless about his legendary status). Joey, a vendor rep, stepped up when no one else would. With his support, we solved the issue, delivered for our client, and learned something profound: extraordinary efforts deserve extraordinary recognition. So, what did we do? We created The Joey Hammer Award. 🏆 Now, every week, we honor teammates who embody Joey’s spirit of going above and beyond. And once a month, the Golden Hammer is awarded to one superstar, complete with a $100 gift card, because great work deserves to be celebrated. Joey’s story reminds us that recognition isn’t just about saying “thanks”—it’s about inspiring a culture of excellence and appreciation. What does your team do to celebrate individual contributions? Drop your ideas in the comments—let’s learn from each other! 👇 #EmployeeRecognition #TeamCulture #Motivation #Leadership

Collaborating with others is a great way to gain new clients, nail your elevator speech, and, most importantly, support other business owners. When we had our restaurant just north of Austin, working with other local businesses (yes, even other restaurants) was a great way to connect, build a strong community, and a great reputation. Here are just some of the ways we worked with others: 🥑 Dress Shop Birthday: A popular gift shop was hosting her 2nd birthday and we provided catering services for a slight discount. We also left cards for a discount to our place for her shoppers. And knowing who she was, she was very vocal about our place which increased our traffic. 🥑 Highlighting Others: During the beginning of COVID, we highlighted the other open restaurants by creating a video containing their options and hours of operation. It was such a crazy time, and we felt that everyone who persevered deserved all the help they could get. A small mom-and-pop coffee shop, a donut shop, and a taco spot - we bought their goods and told everyone to support them, which made them do the same. 🥑 Shed the COVID-19: This partnership was with a local nutrition smoothie operation. We held a contest for people wanting to shed their COVID-19 weight, offering lighter meal options. The other business owner offered discounted smoothies, and since she was a personal trainer, too, she offered advice on weight loss and exercise. We collected funds to enter, and the winner walked away with $500 and looser pants. 🥑 Stuff the Stocking: We partnered with a local candy shop so customers could fill their stockings for the holidays. We offered bottles of wine, and they supplied the candy. We both talked about and shared the idea, which increased foot traffic. What are some ways you see to collaborate? I own The Other Day Marketing and would love to open the doors to collaboration. https://lnkd.in/gPsrzTfE #Collaborate #BusinessOwners #Marketing

Made my first set of cold calls for Cultured. TODAY! After 10 months in business, I finally mustered the courage to gather all the business cards I’ve collected and pitch our unique 𝘊𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘨𝘪𝘧𝘵 𝘣𝘰𝘹𝘦𝘴 for the holiday season. The first call went straight to voicemail, but the second was a game-changer. I spoke with her for 43 minutes, and she purchased 4 boxes on the spot! What an encouraging way to start the day. One of my other calls threw me for a loop. After my pitch, I expected a “𝘯𝘰𝘱𝘦, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥” based on their tone. But to my surprise, they said, “𝘖𝘩, 𝘐 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵.” Talk about a plot twist! This experience reminded me how hard it can be to take the next big step. For some time, I’ve been in this strange in-between place—knowing the next risk is necessary but holding back anyway. It’s a hurdle many of us face, and today, I finally took the leap. If you’ve been stuck, too, just know that the first step is often the hardest. But once you take it, the momentum builds. Now, I’d love to invite you to support 𝘊𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 this holiday season! 🌍 Our boxes feature handcrafted items by talented African artisans, delicious treats, a fun game, and so much more. They make thoughtful, meaningful gifts your recipients will love! 👉 Check out our site here https://lnkd.in/g96-A7ZF, and feel free to DM me if you have any questions. #ShopSmall #SmallBusinessSaturday #CorporateGifting #UniqueGifts #DitchTheChristmasSocks #GetACulturedBox

In the latest episode of my much-loved series - ‘things I haven’t done before’… …I want to talk about the C word in October. Now, regular readers (the lucky ones) will know that I don’t like Christmas and I would usually be saying that it shouldn’t be mentioned until December. However, the activity from Dunelm - at the link below - really caught my eye and left a lump in my throat. The chain of homewares stores has a programme titled ‘Delivering Joy’ which encourages customers to give a gift to someone deserving / less fortunate by picking a tag from their in-store Christmas tree, which will have a local person’s details on it. This serves as a very strong reminder that, as we will be moving into the party season, we may all have team members / people around us that are dreading the next few weeks, and that we shouldn’t presume that ‘one size fits all’. As a HR consultant, I will be sharing a few reminders between now and Christmas about the things we can do - as business owners and employers - to look after our teams and those around us, and how we should be treating everyone as individuals. Kudos to Dunelm for this programme, and it is absolutely something that I will be taking part in. Sometimes overdelivering is the wrong thing to do. I once read that if McDonalds introduced silver cutlery it would be a waste of money. That immediately makes sense right? But I’m not talking about silver cutlery in the wrong setting here. I launched my course and community for parents in February and in addition to gaining access to the library of videos I’d created, there was a monthly live group call. Then I decided to up that to twice weekly calls. I thought it would make joining the community more attractive. And mean that members had more choice and flexibility. But I made a mistake. What ended up happening was that I was often sitting alone in the zoom room. Or one person would join and have a one-on-one with me which was lovely of course, but which somewhat defeated the object of creating the shared solidarity and camaraderie of a community. I reached out to the members and asked them what they thought about the frequency of calls. They all said that because they were so frequent there was no urgency to join one. They didn’t mark their calendars or ringfence the time to attend. Because just like buses, there’d be another one along soon enough. And so I’ve shifted now to twice monthly calls, one in the evening and one at lunchtime. I’ve not hosted a community before. I’m still learning. If you’re creating something new; > Stay humble. > Take feedback. > And don’t assume that you know what your clients want or need. #parenting #parentchildrelationship #thisishowwechangetheworld Thankfully the rest of the feedback has been pretty phenomenal. Here’s what one of the founding members has to say about her experience so far ⬇️ Thanks Ciara 🧡

Overconsumption One of the biggest issues we see with Black Friday is the culture of overconsumption it fosters. It's a day often focused on impulse buying - purchasing things we don’t really need just because they’re on sale. This mindset not only adds to waste but also detracts from intentional, mindful purchasing. Both of these bring significant issues. Did you know that 80% of products purchased during Black Friday sales are thrown out after only a couple of uses? (Source: Green Alliance) To counter this, we’ve approached Black Friday differently. Rather than broadcasting discounts far and wide to attract impulse buyers, we want to use this opportunity to highlight the social and environmental costs of this sales craze. AND, to avoid overconsumption, we only give you HALF a Discount! So how does that work? Instead of going all-in on discounts or doing nothing, we’re giving you half of one - $30 off until December 3rd. But here’s the twist: we’re matching every monitor purchased with this Black Friday discount by donating $30 to an NGO that can make a real difference. The NGO will be vetted by 1% for the Planet to ensure transparency. The discount code 7XHTD0HVFD2B is valid from today until December 3rd and applies to full-assembled monitors only. You can use the code when doing the checkout in our online shop. Let's #RethinkBlackFriday together! #AirGradient #ConsciousConsumerism #SocialImpact #Sustainability #GiveBack #AirQuality
