The most valuable vineyards in Italy: There are so many different characteristics that give value to a vineyard, such that establishing how much a single plot is actually worth is a difficult task. And while keeping within the framework of scissors between minimum and maximum values that in certain appellations see such differences as to mean everything and nothing, to update its broad estimates was once again Crea. According to which, at the top remain the Barolo vineyards, which would sprout values between 250,000 euros and 2 million euros per hectare (but with peaks of 4 million per hectare in cru such as Cannubi, ed.). Also on the podium, then, is Bolgheri, the protagonist of tumultuous growth in recent years, catching up with the Brunello di Montalcino vineyards: in both cases, the value of the vineyards starts at 250,000 euros per hectare, as in Barolo, but the ceiling is estimated at around 1 million euros. Source: winenews.it

Chile, the land of rich viticultural heritage, is seeing a resurgence in its ancient vineyards, spearheaded by Max Morales, CEO of #AndesWines and its innovative #AncestralVineyards Wine Tours by AndesWines.com This concept is set to revolutionise the wine networking and business platform of Andes Wines, drawing from the extensive 23-year research journey of CEO Maximiliano Morales. Covering over 4,000 kilometres from Arica Parinacota to Patagonia, Morales has meticulously mapped the country’s oldest vineyards, originally brought across by European settlers. At the forefront of this initiative is the ‘ #ClimateChangeWineTour ’ which positions Chile as a global leader boasting the most extensive ungrafted, phylloxera-free vineyards. These tours invite enthusiasts to explore terroirs showcasing ancient vines, including Cabernet Sauvignon vines aged 40 to 140 years in Maule, Bio Bio and Maipo, together with Carmenere planted in 1945 in the O'Higgins region and Alto Jahuel in the Maipo Valley. One of the highlights of these explorations includes a visit to a mountain vineyard near Portillo (ski resort), over 1,600 metres above sea level, producing Cornisa Syrah-Malbec from Viña El Escorial in the Aconcagua Valley. A Historical Perspective: Wine in Chile Chile's winemaking history dates back to 1551, when Spanish immigrants brought the País grape, Listán Prieto from the Canaries, to the region through Peru. This variety, taking on different names across the Americas including ‘Mission grape’ in the US, was planted in La Serena, Coquimbo and even in the oases of the Atacama Desert. Later, French immigrants arrived, bringing with them varieties such as Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, especially in areas like San Rosendo at the Bio Bio-Laja River junction. Here, micro-vineyards of these varieties continue to produce exceptional wines from 140-year-old vines. Recent discoveries include Portuguese grape varieties in the Bio Bio region’s Millapoa sector and Bonarda vines near Puerto Varas in the southern-based Puelo Valley, indicating a thriving adaptation to the local climate. Morales' close involvement as Manager of the Innovation Agency of Government, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture via the Nodo Estrategico Chile Vitivinícola 2.0 highlights the significance of old vineyards, climate change adaptation and the consequent innovative marketing strategies behind these rescue missions. New Winery in our portfolio!🍷 I am so happy to announce that we have started working with Matalj Winery from Negotin in Serbia! Here is what Nikola Matalj the owner and winemaker, has to say about the winery: "We operate three vineyards in three different locations, all belonging to the Negotinska Krajina Region. The Negotinska Krajina itself has a very specific position as the easternmost point of Serbia, separated from the rest of the country by the Homolje Mountains, which are actually the final arc of the Carpathians. To the west are the Carpathians, and to the east, Negotin is bordered by two rivers, the Danube and the Timok, after which the Vlaska Lowland begins, a flat landscape. All of this creates conditions for low cloud cover, due to the winds that constantly blow from the Carpathians towards the lowland, and therefore for slightly higher temperatures that impart a distinctive character to our wines, primarily in terms of full body and mature aromas. The land can be divided into alluvial river deposits and sedimentary soil. The Zemna and Terasa vineyards are located in the village of Mihajlovac on alluvial soil. The Bukovo and Kremen vineyards are on sedimentary soil formed by the sedimentation and deposition of marine sediments. Alluvial deposits are demanding soil that exposes the vineyard to water stress and produces robust wines with a strong tannic structure that require aging. The sedimentary soils in Bukovo and Kremen are primarily soils of different compositions that provide the wine with the necessary finesse and an elegant tone that develops over time. Additionally, the tannic structure is one of the highest quality in Serbia."

Vineyard values in Italy: The vineyards of the most prestigious Italian wine denominations are the most valuable agricultural lands in Italy: at the top of are those of Barolo, whose value ranges between 250,000 and 2 million euros, followed by those of Alto Adige, in the area of Lake Caldaro (between 440,000 and 900,000 euros), and then those of Montalcino, the land of Brunello (where they would start from 250,000 euros to reach 900,000). Followed, now closely, by the Bolgheri DOC vineyards, which are in a range between 240,000 and 750,000 euros. The Val Venosta apple orchards reach the same maximum price (which start between 450,000, and are the only crop, other than the vineyards, in the first few places). Completing the top of the ranking are also the DOCG vineyards of Valdobbiadene, the cradle of Prosecco, ranging from 300,000 to 600,000 euros, then the apple orchards of the Adige Valley, between 350,000 and 500,000 euros per hectare. In general, this shows that the purchase and sale of agricultural land continued to grow, even in 2022, albeit at a slower pace on the previous year (+1.7%, with 150,000 deeds of sale), with spillover effects on land prices as well (+1.5% nationwide), not enough, however, to offset the effects of inflation. 

Spain is very much on the front line when it comes to global warming. The good news is that the Spanish wine industry is also at the forefront when it comes to adapting to higher temperatures. #wine #climate change

Ribera del Duero is certainly historic – the Romans tended vineyards here, as evidenced by the 66-meter mosaic of Bacchus, the God of wine, that was unearthed relatively recently at Baños de Valdearados. Modern viticulture as we know it today arrived with the Benedictine monks from Cluny in the Burgundy region in the twelfth century. Our logo is a testament to the history of the region, featuring the crest of Cluny monks linked with the thyrsus of Bacchus. As our ancestors did before us, we farm the land in the most respectful way, allowing each vineyard to be our teacher, with us as the students. This ongoing process of listening to and learning from each site and every vintage enables us to discover and share what each site is capable of expressing. We are continually reminded of the simple principle that most of the vital work occurs in the vineyard. Ribera has significant plantings of old vines, with as much as 9% over 80 years old. Between 1999 and 2014, almost two-thirds of Ribera del Duero’s old vineyards were lost. Given that prices are the same for old and young vines, there aren't many wine growers working these old vines in a professional way, unfortunately. Our vineyards consist of the 1/5 of vines in the region that are above 75 years old, and about 40% of our main holdings are above 100 years old. We see ourselves as guardians of the old, gnarly vines that have so much history and so many stories to tell. It is our blessing to work with them and our destiny to protect their presence and future.

The elongated hills of the Langhe, in the Lower Piedmont, cut by the Tanaro Valley, outline a unique wine-growing territory, which has earned its place among UNESCO World Heritage sites. The Langhe are nestled between the Ligurian Apennines and the Monferrato, forming aligned, deep, and narrow valleys characterized by exceptional biodiversity, which, combined with the generous subsoil, ensure an incredible variety of wine production. The territorial area of Barolo and Barbaresco both toponyms that give their name to two extraordinary wines is located between the lower area of the Langhe, which extends around Alba on the border with the Roero. The treasures of the two Langhe Our itinerary winds through some municipalities of the so-called "Barolo Langhe" Barolo Verduno Cherasco Roddi Grinzane Cavour Castiglione Falletto Diano d'Alba Novello Serralunga d'Alba Monforte La Morra and those of the "Barbaresco Langhe": Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso, and Alba. A territory between sea, mountain, and hills, bordered to the south by the Ligurian Maritime Alps, to the west by the Tanaro River, to the east by the Bormida di Spigno River, and to the north by the hills of the Asti Monferrato. It is here that Nebbiolo finds its greatest expression, the flagship grape of the Langhe, superior to other grape varieties due to a series of genetic characteristics that manifest in aromatic complexity, tannic power, and greater longevity. And it is from its single-varietal vinification that Barolo and Barbaresco are obtained, just as with Pinot Noir in Burgundy, to which it resembles in terms of vineyard parcelization and the promotion of a single grape variety, but from which it differs in terms of viticultural history. https://lnkd.in/d6hAHXXb
