Don’t assume success… Lost Distellery enetered a hyper competitive market with a high price tag in an off the beaten path location. They engineered a lot of head winds into their go to market strategy. My guess is lots of people saw this business and assumed it was successful. If you went there on a Friday night you might have found it full. I talk to entrepreneurs all the time that presume other businesses they see are successful. And then they use that assumption as input into their own strategy. Building a GTM strategy on non-validated assumptions is dangerous. You stack them up and your business all of a sudden becomes a house of cards. Be aware of your assumptions.

Lost Spirits Distillery, a place where you could eat a 16-course meal in a submarine while watching acrobats is unfortunately walking the plank. Turns out, selling $355 dinners in a fake submarine wasn’t the gold mine it was envisioned to be, even with dragon-topped stills. LBE looking to pop up in Vegas might want to take note that even a 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea-themed restaurant with its own rum distillery and Cirque-style entertainment couldn't make the cut.

Label 5. It's a name that most Scots don't know anything about but if you come from Livingston, you'll have seen the massive Distillery there. It's kind of a big deal and is a real success story, for Scotch Whisky Exports. Their blended Whisky is already a 'Top Ten', Scotch Whisky, Global best seller. Incredible but true. Grain Scotch Whisky is ALREADY a thing and anyone who likes Bell's, Johnnie Walker or Famous Grouse is already having this, as a large part of a bottle of Blended Scotch Whisky. There also already are a few Grain-only Scotch Whisky Brands but it's never been that fashionable. However, as it's quicker (and cheaper) to make, and as demand for Scotch Whisky is SOARING, expect to see more, like this. #ScotchWhiskyTruths

A little trade secret - how to choose what I put out at a whisky tasting event?🥃 Ever wondered how I decide what to showcase at a whisky tasting event? Spoiler alert: it’s not as straightforward as you might think! Here are my golden rules for curating the perfect lineup: ✨ Know your crowd: Is this a group of peat lovers, or is that a big no-no? Are they genuine connoisseurs seeking rare gems or happy with anything above 40%? Just like any other industry, understanding the audience is key to making the evening memorable. ✨ Balance creativity with familiarity: Experimenting is part of the fun, but some groups want to stick to classics like Glenfiddich. It's all about striking the right balance. ✨ Build a theme: Themes elevate the experience. Whether it’s exploring whisky regions, diving into the flavour wheel, or weaving in spooky distillery tales (yes, many have their own ghost stories!), a great theme ties everything together. ✨ End with a quiz: Nothing beats a silly whisky quiz to end the evening on a high note. Laughter guaranteed! This December, I’m hitting the road with some exciting new distilleries like Wolfburn making their debut in my tastings. Looking to host your own unforgettable whisky event? Let’s make it happen. 🍂 Cheers to good times and great drams! #WhiskyTasting #Events #Slainte

Main learnings from the process of calibration of tea tasting among tasters. When you use this for improving your tasting accuracy it helps. A sound advise from my boss was that tasting was like playing golf. You are always playing against yourself. No system is pefect. Try to limit the learning to what is possible within the process. Tea Tasting requires all senses to work in harmony. Trusting yourself is important. Each cup you taste will have an instictive score. Validate that and move on. The days you feel tea tasting is no longer enjoyable and challenging it is likely you will have more deviations #tea #calibration

Here are some fun facts about the manufacturing of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey: * The Lincoln County Process: Jack Daniel's undergoes a unique filtration process called "charcoal mellowing" or "The Lincoln County Process." This involves slowly filtering the whiskey through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal, which removes impurities and contributes to its distinctive smoothness. * Cave Spring Water: The water used in the production of Jack Daniel's comes from a natural spring located on the distillery grounds. This cool, iron-free water is believed to contribute to the whiskey's smooth taste. * New Charred Oak Barrels: Jack Daniel's is aged exclusively in new, charred American white oak barrels. The charring process creates a layer of charcoal inside the barrel, which imparts flavors of vanilla, caramel, and spice to the whiskey. * Master Distillers: There have only been seven Master Distillers in the history of Jack Daniel's, a testament to the company's commitment to tradition and quality. The current Master Distiller is Jeff Arnett, who has been with the company since 1990. * No Sales in Lynchburg: Due to a local prohibition law enacted in the late 19th century, Jack Daniel's cannot be sold within the town of Lynchburg, Tennessee. Visitors to the distillery can, however, sample the whiskey on-site. * The Jack Daniel Distillery: The Jack Daniel Distillery is the oldest registered distillery in the United States, having been established in 1866. It is also a National Historic Landmark and a popular tourist destination. These are just a few of the many interesting facts about the manufacturing of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey. The company's commitment to tradition, quality, and unique production methods has helped to make it one of the most popular and recognizable whiskey brands in the world. https://lnkd.in/dvDPRfGr
