According to our Social Justice Partner, ETC Group - Action Group on Erosion, Technology and Concentration, the industrial food chain uses at least 75% of the world’s agricultural resources and is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions – but provides food to less than 30% of the world’s people. 🌾 🌎 This #EarthDay we’re proud to spotlight Adasina’s Extractive Agriculture Campaign, which acknowledges and works to end the negative effects of industrialized agriculture both on our planet and on the people and communities who live on it. Have you read the recent study by the Fundación Triptolemos on sustainable production for smallholder farming families? 🌍 This research highlights the barriers small farmers face globally—like limited access to resources, climate impacts, and market instability—yet underscores their essential role in our food systems. Smallholder farms make up approximately 80% of farms globally, feeding communities and supporting rural economies. But to truly drive global sustainability, we must empower these producers to adopt resilient, climate-smart practices. Together, let's support policies and actions that help small farmers thrive.
