This year, World Homeless Day coincides with World Mental Health Day on 10 October, highlighting the significant intersection between homelessness and mental health. Research shows that homelessness can both result from and contribute to mental health challenges, creating a cycle that demands comprehensive solutions. Addressing homelessness requires a holistic approach that includes mental health support, affordable housing, and community integration. By focusing on these areas, we can break the cycle and build a more inclusive society. Join us in raising awareness and advocating for solutions that create lasting change. Home. Not homeless. Together, we can make it happen. #WorldHomelessDay #BeyondHousing #HomeNotHomeless

October 10th is #WorldHomelessnessDay and #WorldMentalHealthDay. Today we recognize two critical global issues - homelessness and mental health, both of which are deeply interconnected. Homelessness is not a personal failure, it’s a systemic issue that requires empathy and action. 🌍 Yesterday was Mental Health & Homelessness Awareness Day 🌍 At RH Plumbing & Heating, we understand that mental health and homelessness are issues that can impact anyone—both in and outside of the workplace. While these challenges might often be unseen, they can have a profound effect on our colleagues, friends, and families. We believe that creating a supportive environment at work is key. That’s why we have an Open Door Policy —a place where all our team members feel safe and comfortable discussing any concerns, whether they relate to mental health, personal challenges, or well-being. 🗣️ It’s important to us that everyone feels heard, supported, and empowered to seek help when needed. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and we're here to make sure our team knows they're not alone. Let’s continue to raise awareness and encourage open conversations around these vital issues. Together, we can make a difference—at work and in our communities. #MentalHealthAwareness #HomelessnessAwareness #OpenDoorPolicy #SupportEachOther #RHPlumbingAndHeating #MentalWellbeing #WorkplaceCulture #EmployeeSupport

Today is both World Mental Health Day and World Homeless Day. At Look Ahead, we offer care, support and housing to a range of people, many of whom have mental health needs and/or have either been at risk of, or experienced homelessness. To mark the occasion, we’ve compiled a new blog with a few special updates, these include: 1) Our plans to trial a ground-breaking new mental health support service based on the world-renowned "Trieste" model in partnership with the East London NHS Foundation Trust. 2) Plans for more inclusive therapeutic dance sessions as part of our AnyBody Can Dance project with new funding from Arts Council England. 3) Our expansion of talking therapies across our services supporting people with experience of homelessness. November is Homelessness Awareness Month, a time to spotlight the challenges faced by those without stable housing and the efforts needed to create lasting change. In 2023 alone over 650,000 people in US face housing insecurity or are unhoused, and the effects ripple through communities, impacting education, health, and opportunity. It's more than just a statistic—it’s a call to action. This month, I’m reflecting on how we can drive policy change, support local shelters, volunteer, and contribute to initiatives that aim to end the cycle of homelessness. I encourage everyone to take a moment this month to learn, engage, and support organizations that are making a difference. Let’s work together toward a future where everyone has a safe place to call home. If you have impactful stories, resources, or organizations to share, please comment below. Let’s amplify the conversation. #HomelessnessAwareness #CommunitySupport"

Today is both #WorldHomelessDay and #WorldMentalHealthDay2024, two challenges in society which are closely linked. We were established 38 years ago, in response to increasing numbers of people experiencing homelessness in Cornwall, and unfortunately, we are needed now more than ever. In July 2024, we had the busiest month on record, with 211 people sleeping outside receiving support from our services. In line with this increase, we are seeing increasing numbers of people seeking support from us whilst experiencing mental health challenges. In July 2024, 68% of people who accessed our support were experiencing a mental health challenge. To create real change, we must all work together to raise awareness of the very real challenges of homelessness and mental health, and recognise that by working together, we can end homelessness in Cornwall.
