In recognition of Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October, the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) and the nation’s community banks are offering valuable tips to help you protect your sensitive financial information and minimize the risk of cyber threats. While no method is completely foolproof, you can significantly reduce the risk of online identity theft by following these tips: • Never respond to unsolicited requests for personal info like banking IDs, passwords, or account numbers, even if they seem legitimate. • Create strong, unique passwords for each account. Use a password manager and change them regularly. • Enable multifactor authentication for an extra security layer, such as a mobile code or authenticator app. • Guard against phishing by double-checking senders and avoiding unknown links in suspicious emails or texts. • Keep software updated to protect against security vulnerabilities. • Regularly monitor your accounts for unusual activity and report suspicious transactions immediately.
