As the year comes to a close, I can’t help but reflect on what 2024 has meant for us at Food For Education, especially when it comes to employee engagement. Our team is the heartbeat of everything we do, and their dedication is what fuels our mission to create lasting impact for the children and communities we serve. Truly, when people feel engaged, connected, and valued, they bring their whole selves to work - and that’s where the magic happens! Driving engagement isn’t just a box to tick- it’s about nurturing a culture where belonging, purpose, and connection thrive; and building a team that feels seen, valued, and inspired to bring their best every single day. This year, we leaned into some simple (but truly impactful) actions that have made all the difference: ✨ Listening deeply: We opened up more spaces to hear our team—through performance conversations, townhalls, employee satisfaction surveys, team check-ins, and even those casual chats that turn into powerful conversations that inform business process. ✨ Celebrating our people: From shining a light on individual wins to cheering on team milestones (all of which absolutely blew us away!), we showed up to recognize and appreciate the contributions that drive our work ✨ Living our values: Whether in the day-to-day grind or moments of team connection, our shared purpose grounded us, kept us resilient, and reminded us why we do what we do. I'm learning that significant impact often occurs not only during grand, dramatic events but more so through small, seemingly insignificant interactions, decisions, and experiences that accumulate over time, gradually shaping team dynamics. Retrospectively, I’m filled with admiration and gratitude for the dedication, energy, resilience, and heart of every team member who has made this journey possible. How often do you celebrate the little wins at work? We’re all running so fast toward big goals that we forget to stop and celebrate the moments that get us there. But here’s the truth: waiting for the “big win” is exhausting. It’s the small wins—the ones we often overlook—that keep us going. Think about the last time your team hit a milestone or solved a challenging problem. Did you take a moment to celebrate, or was it straight to the next task? What if those moments of recognition and celebration could recharge your team’s energy and remind them why they love what they do? Celebrations don’t have to be grand. New Year Celebrations 2K25. Setting aside the concepts of sin and virtue, there’s little reason to celebrate simply because the date has changed—after all, it happens every 24 hours. The real question is, have we changed ourselves for the better? Have we achieved something truly worth celebrating? Celebration should have meaning. If you want to celebrate, then celebrate being healthy, being debt-free, contributing positively to society, or simply not having hurt anyone this year. Celebrate the things that matter. Celebrate more victories! I used to think everyone likes celebrations. I mean who doesn't, right? Getting together, partying, clicking pictures, being ecstatic etc. But then I myself got to a point where I stopped celebrating. Asking, "Is this even worth celebrating?" hindered my mind. Because of this, I stopped seeing how far I had come as I was always looking for how far I had to go. Then I saw the same pattern around my people, my team and I realised that this has to change! This is when me & my colleague started the Party Planning Committee (PPC). We started celebrating birthdays, successful major deployments, team outings etc. People started celebrating too! Professional and Personal milestones. And now it has become a norm. We work, we celebrate. Simple. In this photo, our client team and we are celebrating one such much-awaiting victory. This was post a major, major requirement that involved multiple teams, stakeholders and management decisions. How often do you celebrate?
