Given my extensive experience and expertise in the water sector and water diplomacy, I was invited to participate in the 2024 Middle East and Mediterranean Summit, as a guest speaker in a panel discussion dedicated to water entitled “Panel 3: Shared Water, Shared Future: Building Cooperation through Water Diplomacy”. This panel will explore how water diplomacy can serve as a tool for fostering regional stability, cooperation, and sustainable development amid increasing water scarcity and environmental challenges. The discussion will focus on key transboundary water issues, such as the management of the Jordan River, Tigris-Euphrates system, and the Nile, where multiple countries rely on shared water resources for agriculture, energy, and drinking water. Panelists will explore successful examples of water diplomacy and cooperation, as well as examine ongoing disputes and the geopolitical tensions they create. Experts will also address the impact of climate change on water availability, including how rising temperatures, decreasing rainfall, and overuse are exacerbating water shortages. The session will highlight innovative approaches to water management, technological solutions, and policies that can promote equitable water sharing and environmental sustainability. By focusing on the role of international law, regional cooperation mechanisms, and the potential for multilateral negotiations, the panel aims to identify pathways toward lasting peace and security in the region, built around shared waters and shared futures. This discussion will underscore the critical importance of water diplomacy as a pillar of regional resilience in the face of growing environmental and political challenges.

Here is a LinkedIn slide deck that's actually worth seeing: Via Ghazali Ohorella
The Indigenous Diplomacy Strategist | Daily strategic playbook creator | Helping 1000+ Indigenous voices get heard at the UN
Is modern diplomacy dying? A thread on why Indigenous diplomacy might be the future Here's what I learned after 20 years in diplomatic frontlines: The problem isn't that modern diplomacy is dying. It's that it was built on sand from the start. Here's how the UN sees Indigenous diplomats: 1. As minorities to be managed 2. Expecting full compliance 3. Pushing for assimilation Their biggest mistake? Underestimating our resilience. Every day, Indigenous diplomats face: • Dismissal of representation • "Feasible solutions" pressure • Systematic silencing But here's the twist: Modern diplomacy = Managing conflicts Indigenous diplomacy = Transforming systems While they play zero-sum games with: • Forced compromises • Power plays • "Meet in the middle" mentality We're building something different The real power of diplomacy isn't making people meet halfway It's showing them paths they couldn't see before Look at BRICS: Built on Indigenous diplomatic principles of Relationship + Representation. Global crises need Indigenous wisdom for: • Climate action • Resource management • Conflict resolution • Biodiversity protection Why? Because we've survived 1000+ attempts at erasure We're not climbing their mountain We're building our own peak The future isn't about: • Getting a seat at their table • Fitting their system • Playing by their rules It's about Nations recognizing Nations Indigenous Peoples at the UN as Nations isn't a dream It's inevitable — Would love to hear your thoughts on the future of diplomacy 🤝 Follow me Ghazali Ohorella for more insights from the Indigenous diplomatic frontlines.

How Chinese Analysts View India’s Climate Change Diplomacy. This Issue Brief explores Chinese analysts' perspectives on India's climate change diplomacy, highlighting the potential for cooperation and challenges. At the official level, the 2009 Agreement on Cooperation on Addressing Climate Change between India and China established a framework for collaboration, emphasising the importance of joint efforts in mitigation, adaptation, and capacity building. As both nations navigate their roles within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and explore bilateral initiatives, understanding Chinese views on India’s climate strategies becomes essential. To achieve that objective, this paper discusses Chinese commentators’ perspectives on the economic, strategic, and geopolitical dimensions of India’s climate diplomacy.
