By supporting smaller nonprofits, your donations can go a long way in helping local causes and making a real difference. And guess what? It doesn't take millions to be a philanthropist; even small contributions can add up to a massive change. Ready to make a difference? Multiply your impact. Nonprofit leaders, what are your thoughts on this? Many argue that there's a systemic bias in how funding gets distributed across the nonprofit sector. Larger, well-established organizations tend to receive the lion's share of grants and donations, while smaller grassroots groups doing important work struggle to keep their doors open. Is it fair that the big names get bigger while emerging causes fight for crumbs? Or does it make sense to fund proven models over unproven ones? Share your perspective: Do we need an overhaul in funding practices to level the playing field, or is the current system working as intended? #nonprofitequity #equitablegiving #resourceallocation

When was the last time you contributed to a cause through #donation? Various motivations drive people to donate, ranging from intrinsic beliefs to extrinsic incentives. For #donors, motivations might stem from a deep alignment with the nonprofit's mission, compelling narratives about program #impact, personal connections to beneficiaries, or external factors like the nonprofit's prominent social media presence or potential tax benefits. For nonprofits seeking to raise funds, it's crucial to conduct thorough donor profiling and tailor their fundraising strategies accordingly. What has your #fundraising experience been like? 👇🏽

I was exploring a giving platform that said that I, as an individual, am a philanthropist. That’s potent messaging. It was exciting to think that I had that kind of power. Collective giving circles can appeal to you in a similar fashion. Pooling your individual donation with others from a like-minded community of charitable peers; making a greater #impact together. It’s an enticing vision. With collective giving, you’re not obligated to do anything beyond the donation…but you can. Some groups go so far as administering entire grant making programs; creating applications, vetting proposals/people/organizations, and deciding who to fund. Sounds easy, right? It’s not. These programs are difficult to manage, and their administration is largely the domain of #nonprofit professionals who work at public charities and private foundations. Granted, many giving circles have some form of governance such as a volunteer board or steering committee. But it’s the community foundations and other #DAF sponsors that are ultimately accountable for their giving. With donations from collective philanthropy reaching nearly $1.5 billion annually, we should be giving more thought to the governance standards of those who operate like a foundation. #givingcircles #collectivegiving #philanthropy #charitablegiving #impactinvesting #communityfoundations

Busy week, but I’d be remiss not to mention that we launched one of our biggest partnerships yet! 😄 DAFpay is now live across all Pledge donation forms - where millions of people support thousands of nonprofits 💜 Pledge is a unique platform that is used by companies (Zoom, Evite, CNN, etc.), nonprofits and individuals to effectively move an audience to take action in support of critical causes ✊🏿 When we talk about inspiration-based giving, pledge is the perfect example of quickly capturing someone’s motivation to give back with seamless embedded giving 😍 But the millions of people that use DAFs to optimize their giving, would historically just use a credit card in that moment - or worse, not give at all ⚠️ Without DAFpay, it is impossible to tie a DAF gift to a specific campaign or fundraiser + it takes several extra minutes to go make a gift which tanks conversion 🪨 But we’re in a new chapter of philanthropy now - one where people with DAFs can deploy their tax advantaged dollars in 3 clicks, anywhere that they’re inspired to give online 🤩 Can’t wait to see all the DAF giving that the Pledge + DAFpay combo drives into year end 📆 #nonprofit #philanthropy #fundraising

In this article in The New York Times, Emma Goldberg explores that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to charitable giving. Rather than limit oneself to #EffectiveAltruism's insistence that everything must be measured and optimized or the irksome moralizing of those who insist on telling you where and how to give, individual donors have numerous and thankfully growing options available to them. In my experience, when people balance giving with heart and strategy, they discover that whether through a trusted nonprofit, direct crowdfunding, or community-based mutual aid, the funds will more often than not be used appropriately and transparently and with the most significant impact. Give locally. Give globally. Just give to what you care about. https://lnkd.in/exnJgCkS #HolidayGiving #Philanthropy #ImpactfulGiving #Nonprofits #CharitableGiving

I like that clip you posted, Pooya Pourak! The reason I think that the charity sector needs to ‘go to where the people are already living their lives’ (i.e. workplaces, schools, hobby communities, such as music and sport)…is because we need to focus on developing donors who intentionally make giving a part of their lives. While traditional approaches to fundraising for the programs and activities run by charities need to continue, I think the sector will continue to struggle if it continues to rely on these methods without bringing more purposeful attention to raising new donors: people and companies that choose to give as part of their lived experience and budget, regardless of what charities they support. The reason is relatively simple: fundraising from people who, on their own, don’t choose to make giving a part of their lives and budget is very difficult and, therefore, expensive. Saying this differently: while fundraising raises money for charities, it doesn’t create a culture of giving. These points are supported by the data that clearly shows we are in an era of declining citizen participation in charities. We believe the donor-advised fund (DAF) is the primary tool to ‘take charity to the people’ because it empowers each person to choose which causes and charities to give to when and how they want. So when you take a DAF as the primary charity tool to an existing community of people, like a workplace, the conversation becomes about why it’s important to give back, as opposed to why everyone should give to a single specific charity that they have likely not had much voice in choosing. People give more when they choose their preferred causes and charities, just like people play more when they choose their favourite sport or hobby. As such, the DAF is a tool about charity, whereas fundraising is about charities. The DAF and fundraising can and will coexist well once more people begin to get their heads around what DAFs are and how they help engage people in giving charitably. This was such a fun conversation, Pooya. You ask wonderful questions. Thanks again for having me on the podcast! #CharitableGiving #DonorCentric #Empowerment #Community #Innovation
Fundraising shouldn't be like waiting for guests to come to your party; it should be like bringing the party to them. Traditionally, #nonprofits focus on attracting donors by encouraging them to engage directly with their organization, "look at me!" This model relies heavily on #donors taking the initiative, which can be a huge barrier for attracting and engaging new donors. A shift is to meet people where they are and create spaces where missions meet #community interests, "look at us, together!" It's a call to #innovate and adapt, and make the act of giving feel less like an obligation and more like an expression of shared values. By taking a community-centered approach to #fundraising, nonprofits can create more organic and dynamic environments for giving.
