Could AR glasses make smartphones obsolete in the next decade?” 🕶️📱
I’ve been exploring #VR lately, and it’s been an incredible experience. However, the tech world is buzzing about the shift towards AR. Companies like Meta and Snapchat are developing AR glasses that blend the digital and physical worlds seamlessly. These advancements suggest a future where our interactions with technology become more intuitive and immersive. It’s an exciting time to be part of this evolution!
Could you imagine Glasses instead of a Smartphone 📲 🤔
#AugmentedReality#Innovation#FutureTech
Meta has just unveiled the Orion AR/VR glasses, and it's clear that 2025 is going to be a groundbreaking year for augmented reality.
Soon our reality is enhanced with real-time information, seamless interactions, and endless possibilities. Whether it's gaming, education, or even everyday tasks, AR is going to transform our lives in ways we can only begin to imagine.
With Meta’s launch of the Orion AR/VR glasses and Snapchat's recent release of their Spectacles, it’s becoming clear that 2025 will be a intense year for augmented reality. This intense focus will bring AR from the early adopters into the mainstream, transforming how we learn, work and play.
What you might expecting to see:
👓 Enhanced AR Wearables: More powerful and user-friendly devices that seamlessly integrate digital experiences into our daily lives.
👓 Broader Adoption: From gaming and social media to enterprise applications, AR is set to touch every aspect of life.
👓 Commercial Ad Possibilities: AR will revolutionize advertising by enabling immersive and interactive ad experiences. Imagine walking down the street and seeing personalized ads in real-time or trying on products virtually before making a purchase.

Two weeks ago, I posted a sneak peek of Zapbox Link – our shiny new app that brings PC VR experiences, like Half-Life: Alyx, straight to your iPhone and Zapbox.
Excited yet? Good news: it’s officially live on the App Store, and you can download it for free today!
But wait, there’s more and it’s a corker (although here comes the shameful marketing plug so unsubscribe now if you want): for a limited time, you can bag a Zapbox AND a copy of Half-Life: Alyx for under $100 for your iPhone 11 or later! No, it's not a scam 🙂
This is the perfect opportunity for anyone curious about PC VR gaming but wary of the steep price tag. It’s VR without the hefty investment—a proper win for your wallet and your sense of adventure.
Here’s how to claim the deal:
1. Use the code 'FREEALYX' at checkout on the Zapbox website (link in comments) to get an instant discount equivalent to the Steam price of Half-Life: Alyx.
2. Head to Steam, grab your copy of Half-Life: Alyx (sale ends Nov 22, 2024, 18:00 UTC), and you’re good to go!
This isn’t just about scoring a great deal (though needless to say it is a cracking one!).
Zapbox Link is about reimagining what’s possible with just an iPhone and Zapbox – bringing immersive experiences to millions of users for whom it might have been out of reach (or mind).
All you need is your iPhone and Zapbox.
The real magic is of course in the experience and where hardware meets deliciously well-crafted content.
I dare you not to have a blast stepping into the world of Half-Life: Alyx—even if you’re a VR novice like me, you’ll be hooked.

So, there’s a new Google Pixel phone, and one of its flagship features is “Add Me” – allowing you to retroactively include yourself in a photo you’ve just taken.
As a Product person, I always think about the value of a new feature, and I’m struggling with this one. Isn’t it just easier to ask a stranger to take your group photo, or simply use a selfie stick or tripod?
On a broader level, it feels like mobile phone innovations have hit their peak, with new features now being more gimmicky than groundbreaking. Yes, AI will soon enhance app experiences, but beyond that, what’s left?
This might be why Meta and Apple are investing heavily in AR and VR – perhaps that’s where the next wave of innovation lies.
Product Managers, help me out here – am I being too harsh on the “Add Me” feature? Is there more value here than I’m giving it credit for?

Phygital trend continues to grow and offers users new immersive experiences!
Bascule Japan has developed an XR game letting customers immerse themselves in a cool outdoor adventure. This exact game is recorded on iPhone and made available via Quest 3.
Though this example is obviously made for fun, but I believe such phygital developments can be also used for education, social projects, marketing needs, and so on.

Running Snapchat AR lenses on Apple Vision Pro 👻 ᯅ
Few people know that we can run Snapchat lenses on the Apple Vision Pro right out of the box.
Here's how you can do it:
1. Enable Camera Kit in the project settings.
2. Visit https://lnkd.in/dcKV_k8v
3. Build your lens in Lens Studio and click "Send to Camera Kit" in the top right corner.
That's it: since it's web AR, it works in any modern web browser on mobile, desktop, and even Vision Pro. Apple Persona works as a regular camera feed, so all capabilities like Face Tracking also just work.
The only problem is that you can't use lenses in FaceTime calls or other apps, but you can build a web or native app leveraging Camera Kit to capture a video stream with an active lens.
