🌟 💡 Unlocking 500,000 Potential Patient Spots: Shocking potential in BC Healthcare! Doctors of BC has revealed the surprising fact that that approximately 500,000 patients are listed with more than one family doctor. This duplication means that theoretically, there are 500,000 extra spots available for patients if these individuals are assigned to a single physician rather than multiple ones. Addressing this challenge will be crucial in ensuring that patients have a clear and consistent point of care, improving access to family doctors. It's encouraging to see the Ministry taking steps to resolve this issue, aiming to optimize our healthcare system for better patient outcomes. Context: A panel list is a record of patients assigned to a specific family doctor or primary care provider. It helps ensure that patients receive consistent and continuous care from their designated Most Responsible Provider (MRP). There has been a recent program to have all family physicians organize and upload their panel list. Doctors of BC states that 91% of panel lists in the province have been submitted into the Provincial Attachment System (PAS), a significant milestone that allows us a clearer picture of what is happening in BC primary care. By ensuring each patient has a dedicated MRP, we can enhance continuity of care and make more efficient use of our healthcare resources. This initiative represents a significant step forward in our commitment to providing accessible and comprehensive healthcare for all. #Healthcare #PrimaryCare #PatientCare #HealthAccess #MedicalReform #FamilyDoctors #HealthcareImprovement #ProvincialAttachmentSystem #HealthcareInnovation #PatientFirst #BCHealth #CommunityHealth #MedicalMilestone

How does my practice manage to meet and beat the expectations of the public? Recently, the general public were asked about which part of NHS care they would like to see prioritised, and the results were incredibly interesting: - Over half (55%) said General Practice - Over three quarters of the public (78%) supported more funding for general practice if it would reduce appointment waiting times. - 84% believe the next government should increase the number of GPs to make it easier to book an appointment Overall, 83% of respondents said they wanted to see action from the next government on access. Two thirds (66%) said that it was important to them to be able to book a GP appointment with a health professional they have met before - ensuring continuity. These national expectations got me thinking about whether my own practice, Elm Tree Medical Centre meets them. Upon reflection I realised that we do listen to our patient population and do indeed deliver on their expectations. Here’s how; 1️⃣ We have an open appointment system - the patient calls in and decides when they want to be seen AM/PM and which day. 2️⃣ We have 24/7 online booking system- this has been instrumental in removing the 8am telephone bottleneck experienced by many in Primary Care. 3️⃣ When given a choice, patients prefer seeing a GP and so, a whopping 13 out of our 15 clinicians are general practitioners 4️⃣ Patients prefer continuity - we have built a system where patients get the choice of who they would like to see. Last year an NHS survey was done where practices were ranked on how much choice their patients get. The national average was around 50%. Ours was 90%. How have we achieved this? I’ll discuss this in a later post! #generalpractice #primarycare

This recent Becker's Healthcare article highlights the significant projected shortfall of inpatient bed availability as our population ages, gets sicker, and struggles with appropriate access to care. Risk stratification can play a supportive role in addressing the burgeoning need for these beds. By better understanding and addressing risk factors early on, healthcare providers can reduce the strain on inpatient facilities and focus on delivering more proactive, cost-effective care, ultimately optimizing hospital utilization and improving the patient experience. https://lnkd.in/eUQjHy79

#1 unwritten rule in the hospital; just do your job and fly under the radar. Annually over $1,400,000,000,000 ($1.4 trillion) is spent in American hospitals. Hospitals are filled with brilliant, thoughtful and innovative people. Every scenario has been considered, and there are no blind spots. Right? Absolutely not. Nationwide every 1 second, 6 patients are discharged from hospitals and emergency departments with half of them unsure of what’s next in their recovery. It’s common sense that patients who understand their care will have better health outcomes and are less likely to re-admit. Patient engagement is a priority. No, not in hospitals. CMS patient surveys say otherwise. US News & World Report’s Honor Roll of the top 20 US hospitals have an average of 56.7% [Grade-F] of “Patients who ‘Strongly Agree’ they understood their care when they left the hospital.” Overall, American hospitals are failing worse. Are many people unable to understand their care, or has the problem been overlooked? Please share your thoughts. Feel free to DM about helping your hospital improve the discharge experience. #Healthcare #PatientExperience #Hospitals #Medicare

🏥✨ Hospitals are seeing care patterns return to normal, with average length of stay and emergency department visits stabilizing in April 2024, according to the latest “National Hospital Flash Report” from Kaufman Hall. The report analyzing data from more than 1,300 hospitals from Syntellis Performance Solutions showed a decrease in the average lengths of stay in April. Experts at the healthcare consulting firm suggest this signals a “return to normal care patterns and the establishment of stronger post-acute care transitions.” Additionally, outpatient revenue and operating room minutes increased in April, the report noted. Net operating revenue per calendar day also grew by 5% month-over-month and 13% year-over-year, helping to put hospitals in a better position compared to three years ago (21% increase in year-to-date versus 2021). 🌟 #Healthcare #HospitalCare #PatientCare #HealthcareHeroes #MedicalProfessionals #HealthNews #HospitalLife #HealthcareTrends #HealthMatters #MedicalUpdates #StrongMonth #PatientVolumes #HealthcareInnovation #HealthCareAccess
