Occasionally my business overlaps with my friendships, and I love it when that happens.... Julie and I first met in 2002. We waited tables together at an Italian restaurant here in my hometown. Julie is one of the most kind, welcoming, genuine people you'll ever meet. If you know her, you can't help but love her - that's just who she is. I came from the chain restaurant world of Ruby Tuesday (are they even still around anymore?) to this fine dining restaurant and felt completely out of my element. I didn't know how to open a bottle of wine (heck I was 19 and probably drank Boone's Farm back then), or about the variety of seafoods and pastas we offered. Jules took me under her wing and graciously taught me everything she knew, up to and including how to tie a tie (part of our uniform). Little did she know, she also taught me how to create an awesome customer experience, how to run a team, and how to lead by example. Jules went on to marry a successful chef and restaurant owner, but years later when he decided to sell the business and go a different path, Jules was ready to try something different. HYI was looking for a PL Account Manager and I knew Julie's personality, work ethic, and customer service skills would make her a perfect fit. She had all the makings to be successful, she just needed to learn the insurance piece. She wasn't sure she could do it - but I promised her that on the right team, I knew she could. One of the things I love about Joe Lapi is that he keeps an open mind. He also trusts me. When I presented Julie as a candidate 3 years ago, he said "If you like her for this, I'll talk to her." She was offered the job that week (even edging out a candidate who HAD experience). Today my dear friend who spent her entire adult life in the restaurant world has made a total pivot into insurance, and has a successful new career path ahead of her. If you're a retail agency always wondering where your next awesome AM is going to come from, try keeping an open mind. Go for the person who has the right attitude and checks SOME of the boxes. Planning ahead instead of waiting until the hire is a 5 alarm fire will afford you the time to train folks like this. I promise you it will result in some of your very best hires. I think Joe and team would agree, Julie's been an asset to HYI - not just professionally, but in keeping with the awesome culture he's creating over there. Cheers to 3 years, Jules! 🥂

Happy 35th wedding anniversary to us! Many amazing times and memories. A lot of laughs, fun, work, learning and growth. Top tip? Listen! ➡️ Listen to understand what your partner thinks and feels. ➡️ Listen fully without thinking of what you’ll say next. ➡️ Listen generously and patiently. ➡️ Listen without judgement. ➡️ Listen for the story behind the story. ➡️ Listen with head, heart and guts. ➡️ Listen well enough that you can tell them what you’ve heard and understood and they say “yes, that’s it”. Still a work in progress. Btw this applies to all relationships: parents, children, friends, colleagues, leaders.

🎉 Today, my husband Emanur Rahman and I are celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary 🎉. Together, we’ve navigated: 🏡🏡 house moves 👧🏽🧒🏽 amazing kids, and 🗄🗄🗄🗄🗄🗄🗄 businesses What's our secret? Well, we’ve always made it a priority to pause for breath, take stock and regularly re-evaluate our goals in life....That might sound a bit over the top, but we actually do this! We have to keep up with how we're evolving as individuals and as partners as we move through life and all that it brings. Open communication, of course, has been key, ensuring that we can always ask for what we need at each stage of our journey. In many ways, relationships are just like businesses, don’t you think? They need constant reassessment. Without regular check-ins and open dialogue, things can become stagnant, barriers can form and ultimately they can break down. Emanur definitely has his work cut out, as I am always reinventing myself or my businesses. Fun fact: I was once dubbed the ‘Madonna of Accountancy’ 👩🏻🎤 - constantly evolving, and with Boodl, I'm clearly still at it! As long as we keep the doors to communication open and, as Madonna says, ‘Express Yourself’ 😜, then everything will be just fine. Here's to 26 years of love, growth and endless reinvention! 💕 #ExpressYourself #WeddingAnniversary #OpenCommunication

Did You Know? In another world, I'd be celebrating my 25th wedding anniversary this year. It got me thinking about wedding anniversaries and what gifts people give, and it's a fascinating topic. If you're married, what gifts do you give each other? Do you celebrate your anniversary? Do you follow traditions? If you're on your way to be married, will you be giving desk sets & orchids as anniversary gifts or do you feel this is an antiquated way of doing things now?? let's discuss in the comment section, id love to know your thoughts! Oh, and p.s. I do vow renewal ceremonies, too! Chats from a non-traditional Celebrant. Photo by @quirkypearbrandphotography

We invite you to join us in celebrating Regina, Employee of the Month! 👏🏼 💙Who is Regina in 50 words or less? I am a Colombian-born creative and carer, passionate about connection, creativity, and making a difference. With a background in fashion design and a love for helping others, I thrive on bringing positivity to those around me. My values of family, friendship, and honesty shape both my personal and professional life. 💙How do you define success? I define success as finding purpose in what I do, growing personally and professionally, and creating positive impacts on others. Whether it's bringing a smile to someone’s face or overcoming a personal challenge, success is about progress and living a life aligned with my values. 💙What are you grateful for? I’m grateful for my family, who taught me the importance of connection and support, and for the opportunities I’ve had to reinvent myself in new places. I’m also thankful for my health, my friends, and the simple joys of nature, creativity, and the work that gives my life meaning. 💙If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why? I would love to meet Dietrich Bonhoeffer. His unwavering faith and courage in the face of injustice inspire me deeply. He lived out his Christian values by standing up for others, even at great personal cost. I admire his wisdom, humility, and his belief in serving others with love and conviction. 💙What is your personal mantra/motto? "Bring light into the world wherever you can." I believe that small, positive actions—whether it’s listening to someone, offering help, or being present—can make a big difference. Every day is an opportunity to create joy and kindness, even in the simplest ways.

Happy 65th wedding anniversary to my amazing grandparents!!! Why do I post this on LinkedIn you ask? So much can be learned by this real life example of success... When I asked them how in the world they've achieved what less that 1/2 of 1% of couple ever experiences, their answers were profound yet amazingly simple. 1) Don't take life too seriously. 2) Don't make things a bigger deal than they are. See them for what they are and drive forward. 3) Learn to compromise. A lot! Trust the person you are in a relationship with to have your best interest at heart. 4) Laugh. Then laugh some more. Here is a beautiful quote: "Ya know, when you laugh and choose to see happiness in life, you are in tune with Joy. And Joy is one of life's greatest gifts." So grateful for a great example of how imperfect people can create and keep incredible success! P.S... You'll still see them kissing each other on the cheek when they walk past each other in the kitched... 😎🔥
