You & I are being manipulated. We are being bombarded with propaganda & misinformation. Think you’re too intelligent to fall for it? Think again. The more time that you have spent as an academic the higher the likelihood that you have accepted the narrative. The discussions on the 5 Eyes Intelligence Alliance (minute 19:40) & Psychological Bioterrorism (minute 23:35) should, as a minimum, force us all to question what we are being told (sold) by our so-called leaders: https://lnkd.in/gzfAQP39

While the escalation in the #MiddleEast and the tensions in the #IndoPacific remain at the top of the US and international #ForeignPolicy agenda,, The Washington Outsider #Report on Coalition Radio held a timely discussion with Jason M. O. who has both professional and academic experience in both areas, to discuss the relationship between the region, the common threats, and whether resolving some of the conflicts in the #MiddleEast could have a positive impact on the #IndoPacific. We talk about how making the #MiddleEast a safer place through integration could create a point of stability and put an end to the triangulation between #China, #Russia, and #Iran. We talk about educational gaps and lapses and the importance of having an #AbrahamAccords type framework in the US higher education to be able to work with other regions. We talk about the proliferation of false, distorted, and Islamist narratives about the history of the region. We delve into US #foreignpolicy and why judicious exercise of power in both regions could both deter enemies and inspire allies. We discuss various strategies of dealing with threats - should we be supporting independence movements in #China, #Russia, or #Iran? OR should we be more focused on building up our allies and investing into the #strategy of common #defense? Can a renewed relationship with Middle Eastern states create a buffer against the unwelcome #Beijing influence? And so much more.... Don't miss the full long but thorough discussion on some of the most important geopolitical dilemmas the world is facing today! #military #security #defense #MiddleEast #ArabWorld #thegulf #GCC #Qatar #UAE #UnitedArabEmirates #Bahrain #KSA #SaudiArabia #Gaza #Hamas #Iraq #Lebanon #Hizbullah #Morocco #africa #northafrica #Egypt #Jordan #peacebuilding #peacemaking #conflictresolution #conflictmanagement #terrorism #counterterrorism #extremism #counterextremism #education #China #foreignaffairs #diplomacy #geopolitics #strategy

A Short Analysis of the Recent Escalation Between Iran and Israel 1. The end...for now: Despite Israel's recent attack on Friday, it is unlikely that the recent confrontation between the two countries will escalate into a war. 2. Israel did change its policy towards Iran: The Israeli attack on Iran's consulate in Damascus on April 1 marked an unprecedented escalation. Despite the Iranian response on April 13, the main shift is that Iranian assets in Syria and Lebanon are now more vulnerable to Israeli attacks. 3. Hezbollah was on the sidelines: Hezbollah played a minor role in the April 13 Iranian attack. This indicates that Iran did not want to risk escalating the situation into a confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah. Notably, during the April 17 attack at Arab al-Aramshe, Hezbollah deployed the Alma ATGM missile for the first time, showcasing significant capability. 4. Iran did signal part of its response: Unlike the September 2019 Iranian attack against the Saudi oil processing facilities at Abqaiq, this time, Iran provided a warning about its intentions but surprised everyone with the extent of the attack, which was much larger than anticipated. The Iranian intention was to demonstrate that "next time" it would deliver a massive surprise. 5. Iran is maintaining a "strategic patience" approach: Tehran is seeking to avoid regional escalation while simultaneously maintaining the current status quo that serves its regional goals. To learn more about the recent escalation, please listen to the webinar I conducted with Iran expert Dr. Raz Zimmt earlier this week.

On 28 January Dr. Kingsley LM. Makhubela, PhD. shared his analysis on the conflict in the #DRC and its implications for stability in the region. Current developments in the Eastern DRC has to be seen in the context of a much longer, and tragic history of conflict that has afflicted the country - as I explored in an article published by Leadership Magazine SA - Uganda pays DRC for war damages: remembering Rwanda’s 1994 genocide and Africa’s First World War (the Congo 1998 – 2003) https://lnkd.in/dZVwFV_D In 2022, news broke, that went mostly unnoticed, being that the International Court of Justice, ordered Uganda to pay US $325 million, as war reparations, for its role in what has come to be known as Africa’s (first) World War – 1998 to 2003. Madison Moulton, writing on the History Guild platform, argues that, ‘5.4 million people died in the deadliest war in modern African history. Yet, the event remains overlooked and understudied. A spill over war resulting from the Rwandan Genocide, fighting continued between the Hutu and Tutsi people, backed by Uganda. The First and Second Congo Wars caused the largest loss of life that has occurred since World War 2.’ The significance of this can only be understood by rewinding in time to a period, the mid to late 1990s, that saw ruthless bloodthirsty barbarism unleashed on the unsuspecting heads of millions of citizens of Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. At the time, for South Africans, news of this genocide was a peripheral occurrence in the midst of our Madiba-induced, dawn of democracy, euphoria. In a strange way the Rwandan genocide is the absolute inverse of what occurred in South Africa, in 1994. The world had always expected South Africa to be, potentially, the one nation that will fall into bloodletting and violent ethnically induced race-based extermination wars.

The good news is that German public opinion is shifting - 69% of Germans believe that the civilian death toll in Israel's war on Gaza cannot be justified with only 18% believing that it can. https://lnkd.in/dHU3fg_R And courageous German civil servants are demanding an immediate end to arms sales to Israel. Significantly those with "international experience" outside the "German bubble" are the ones pushing this call. https://lnkd.in/dDYR8N9Z Here's an excellent example (in German) of that from the Beirut based staffer from the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. https://lnkd.in/dD_wJA2j The bad news? Self censorship is very much the norm because of the power of the Israel Lobby in Germany to punish dissent. The screenshot in the comments is from a German friend from yesterday. What can we do? Keep talking to the Germans we know and who trust us. Share this kind of independent news info. Dont judge - we don't know the risks they experience. At some point, as with the falling of the Berlin Wall, this complicity can't go on and it will collapse. (Thanks to Luke Cooper from the LSE for these links. Sadly he's only on Twitter x.com/lukecooper100?s=11 ) Hanno Hauenstein
Israeli researcher Shir Hever tells Germany’s independent media outlet AcTVism Munich that a new analysis of German weapons transfers to Israel has revealed that Germany has delivered a “tremendous” and “shocking” quantity of munitions to Israel’s genocidal regime. Moreover, in the German government, the prime enablers of these weapons transfers are Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Economy Minister Robert Habeck, both from Germany’s disgraceful, warmongering Green Party. https://lnkd.in/eWDGHYdz #germany #gaza #genocide #palestine #Deutschland
