In the face of Hurricane Milton, the Tampa Bay area braces for impact. With a storm surge threatening 500,000 homes—valued at $123 billion—the financial implications are immense. This scenario mirrors the 1921 Tarpon Springs Hurricane, which wreaked havoc with significant flooding. The commercial infrastructure, from downtown Tampa's bustling districts to St. Petersburg's waterfront, could face severe challenges. The potential weakening of Milton before landfall offers a glimmer of hope, but uncertainty remains. Let's remain vigilant and prepared for what could be one of the most impactful storms in recent history. How will this storm reshape our urban landscape? #TampaBay #HurricaneMilton

Category 5 Hurricane Milton Hurricane Milton peaked on Monday with maximum sustained winds topping 180mph and a minimum pressure of 887mb. Milton weakened last night due to an eyewall replacement cycle. An eyewall replacement happens when the initial eye is replaced by a bigger one. This weakens hurricanes but causes hurricanes to grow in size. However, this process is completed and Mitlon has regained its category 5 status. Conditions will continue to be favorable into tonight, favoring more strengthening. On Wednesday, a combination of another eyewall replacement, dry air and wind shear should somewhat weaken Mitlon to a category 3 or 4 hurricane before landfall. Regardless of a weakening hurricane prior to landfall, Milton will produce a devastating storm surge to West Florida as the hurricane grows in size. This is not a hurricane to mess around with if you are in the path!! #hurricane #Milton #weather Stay safe 🙏

ICAT is continuing to monitor Hurricane Milton. As Milton approaches the Florida coast, atmospheric conditions are becoming increasingly hostile for the hurricane, with rising wind shear and dry air expected to weaken the storm. While consensus models predict a category 2 hurricane at landfall, the National Hurricane Center remains expectant for a category 3 impact. Current forecasts indicate landfall just south of Tampa Bay, near Sarasota. However, with a track error of about 70 miles, the exact location remains uncertain and will depend on Milton's interaction with the large-scale steering current (upper-level trough). With power outages imminent, it is essential to review generator safety tips to ensure you and your family remain safe. https://lnkd.in/gAbCAeUN #HurricaneMilton

Good news? Well, better news for the gulf coast, which has been battered the last two hurricane seasons, but not for the east coast. Data from multiple modeling services indicates a 62% chance of a major hurricane on the east coast in the next few months. For eastern Florida, the probability is up to 75%. The most likely landing spots for those storms are along the east coast of Florida and elsewhere on the Eastern Seaboard.
