According to the latest Bellwether report from the IPA, events dominate marketing spend. Events clearly demonstrate brands value and customer's trust in brands in face-to-face interactions. Even though online spending continues to take the marketing budget share, seeing how the event-filled summer will affect activity as 2024 continues will be interesting. The quarterly study by the IPA (Institute of Practitioners in Advertising) analyses marketers’ confidence and budget choices, found that the category of ‘events’ saw budget expansion in Q1 2024 of +23.1% from a previous +15.9% in Q4 2023. https://lnkd.in/esX8EWBb #eventmarketing #eventindustry #exhibitionsmeanbusiness #eventprofs

What have retailers said is the most effective form of advertising, no matter the era? Easy. Word of mouth. But how do you drive more of it, and how do you measure it? What are the long-term effects of word of mouth? Customers who are referred are almost always your best customers: - They buy more - They buy more often - They’re less likely to leave a bad review - They’re more likely to refer other customers - They’re more likely to buy without a discount The bottom line is that you need more referred customers. But how do you do that? 1. Have a great product. No way around this. Make sure your product or service is excellent and that it’s getting better. Unless it’s something like Coca-Cola, then don’t screw with it. 2. Run an Ambassador program to FUEL and speed up WOM. WOM is great. But it can just be sloooooooooow. If there’s one phrase that drives Dan Kennedy nuts, it’s this response when he makes the suggestion to move from “image” advertising to “direct response” advertising: “But my business is different… my customers are professionals and they expect all our marketing materials to be equally professional.” To which Dan says: “HOGWASH!” (Actually, Dan is known for using somewhat saltier terminology, but the meaning remains the same.)
