Yesterday was one of those really fulfilling days at work where taking the difficult decision to leave the fire service almost eight years ago, to focus fully on Breaking Strain, felt totally justified. Started with a good chat with Paul Reeve from Sky Blue Adventures. Different former shade of blue light agency (police v fire) and different experiences, but same ethos, attitudes and take on how to build effective teams and run safe treks and events. At lunch (thankfully with my camera off), some CPD around Safeguarding at events, delivered by Lauren Stewart and arranged by Safe Events Global. Thanks for sharing Mark Breen PgDip, SFIIRSM RSP, F.ISRM, FIPM, TechIOSH. Really useful input and a few takeaways to build into our own event documents and processes. Then onto some work on risk assessments for one of our film/TV clients where I was providing risk assessment and safety advice. Loads of interaction, discussion and the crew buying into how to make their shoot safer. And finally, ended the day (the night) talking all things Arctic trekking via Zoom with some new clients and also some others considering joining our winter 2025 season. Discussed the physical prep involved, the conditions, mental strategies for getting through a trip like this and the real positive change that the process can bring personally; whether getting fitter, building resilience, bonding with your team and stepping outside your comfort zone. #eventsprofs #safety #touroperator

Today, I find myself at the crossroads of professional development and personal milestones: not only am I mastering the crucial skills of telehandler operations for precise load management, but I am also celebrating my 33rd birthday. I appreciate all the thoughtful messages received! Yesterday's training focused on the exact placement of loads—precision isn't just desired; it’s essential. As we advance today, the challenges intensify, blending technical skills with a strict adherence to safety protocols. The operator's skill is as critical as the telehandler's power. The commitment to safety is paramount. Every manoeuvre is a deliberate blend of caution and capability, ensuring that our event sites operate smoothly and safely. With the UK's summer event season just three weeks out, the skills developed here are crucial for ensuring security and seamless event execution. Every lift teaches us about physics in the training environment, and every drop reinforces the importance of careful action. The telehandler responds to our inputs, underscoring the importance of each decision in maintaining site efficiency and safety. Tonight’s plans are simple yet meaningful—a quiet back garden (because we have one now)BBQ, enjoying a steak and reflecting over a beer. However, the celebration will be brief as I prepare for tomorrow's fourth day of training. Today reminds us that life and learning are about continuous growth. To my fellow event professionals, what lessons have been crucial in shaping your approach to on-site operations? #EventProfessionals #SafetyFirst #ContinuousLearning #OnSiteOperations

Today marks the start of National Work Zone Awareness Week. This year's theme, "Work Zones are temporary. Actions behind the wheel can last forever," emphasizes the lasting impact driver behavior can have. At GHA we understand that work zones, though temporary fixtures, are areas where heightened caution can make a profound difference. The decisions made by each driver passing through these zones not only affect the immediate safety of workers and fellow motorists but can also have lasting consequences. Heads up, slow down, and follow the signs! Making smart choices in work zones keeps traffic moving and gets you where you need to be quicker. #NWZAW #GoOrange4Safety #GHAteam

A really important message from Justin Ford. I can't think of anything more than important than preventing CO in your home or short-term rental. It's so easy to install CO detectors and save lives. At Dwellwell Analytics, Inc. we've taken it one step further. We understood the importance of this and built a sensor that includes CO detection as well as proactive detection of leaky pipes, failing HVAC, corroded wires, smoking, mold risk, and noise....all in once plug and play device. Contact me to learn more. #smarthometech #smarthome #residentialmaintenance #proptech #AI #IoT #propertymanagement #propertymaintenance #REtech #SaaS #rentalproperty #ShortTermRental #STR #breezeway
Those who are familiar with me know my thoughts and feelings on Brian's response in this interview last night. We have been validating CO alarms and other safety devices in rentals for years at Breezeway. Doing this is a ‘walk in the park’ and will save lives. Brian actually says, “there isn’t a mechanism in place to do this” - professional managers using Breezeway have been validating safety features since 2017. https://lnkd.in/e34W8nsZ

Oh, so it's "very hard"? This makes total sense now. This is why the business seems so easy - all you have to do is skip the hard parts and poof, its easy. For the last several months on The Art of Hospitality Podcast, Conrad, Adam, many of our guests, and I have been tackling the real challenges of this industry. Despite this, some voices continue to portray it as a breeze. Are we being divisive by insisting it's tough? Surely, they don't truly believe it's easy... right? And then, the CEO of Airbnb openly admits it: Implementing a mandate to save lives with CO2 detectors is "very hard." They made this commitment 10 years ago? What's the value of a life? What lengths should we go to in order to save one? And while CO2 detectors are critical, let's not breeze past another startling admission: they're "working really hard" to verify that the properties listed have real, confirmed addresses. What? Reflect on this and consider the vast array of challenges that professional vacation managers handle every single day. If something as crucial as this is deemed "very hard," what else is being sidestepped? These national brands, #Vacasa and #Airbnb, continue to undermine the trust and safety foundational to our industry. I'll say it again, really loud, professional managers handle this stuff and much more, every single day, and its just part of doing things the right way.
