This week’s #TOTakesFlight features Benjamin and Duc, miners who frequently travel from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to Thunder Bay onboard Porter Airlines Inc., and then on to the Musselwhite gold mine in northwestern Ontario. For them, #YTZ has become an essential part of their journey every two weeks. “It’s always been nice,” Benjamin told us of the YTZ’s convenience. “You get straight downtown. Everything’s great about it.” Gold is among Canada's most valuable mined commodities, with a production value of $13.2 billion in 2022. Global demand for minerals like gold is on the rise, with this demand helping to create new jobs and economic opportunities in northern Ontario. In fact, Ontario has been a leader in mining for almost a century, responsible for one-third of Canada’s total mined metal production. Thanks for choosing YTZ, Benjamin and Duc! We’re so happy to be a part of your bi-weekly commute as you help to drive such an important industry for Ontario and Canada’s economy. Safe travels, and we’ll see you the next time you pass through! #airports #Aviation #mining #ontario #Toronto #Musselwhite #gold #connectivity

The impending and unprecedented work stoppage on Canada's major railways CN and CPKC is of deep concern for Saskatchewan's mining sector. As key users and stakeholders of rail services, our members are acutely concerned about the impact of potential work disruptions on their ability to deliver products to international markets in a predictable and timely manner and the consequential impacts on their Saskatchewan operations. We call on the federal government to exercise its power under s.107 of the Canada Labour Code to immediately send the parties to binding arbitration to prevent a catastrophic disruption of Canada's supply chain. The Saskatchewan Mining Association is acutely concerned about the impact the unprecedented and simultaneous railway lockout of 9,300 CN and CPKC workers has on Canada's economy, trade and food security. We call on the federal government to pursue immediate action and send the parties to binding arbitration to secure Canada's industrial peace. As a trading nation, the rail stoppage will have catastrophic results for Canada's and Saskatchewan's economies. We cannot afford to continue to lose market share to other countries that have lower ESG standards but more reliable supply chain networks. Delta significantly expands its land position at the Delta-1 property in Thunder Bay, Ontario ⛏️ We are pleased announce that we have acquired a 100% interest in the Ternowesky property further expanding its land position at the Delta-1 property in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The expansive property consists of 443 claim units spanning over seven townships and covering over 93 square kilometres. Delta’s land package now covers over 306 square-kilometres in the central portion of the Shebandowan Greenstone Belt. The property now covers a 35-kilometre strike extent of both the Shebandowan and Gold Creek deformation zones. Both structures are gold-endowed, crustal-scale structural zones at the unconformable boundary between Temiskaming-Type sedimentary rocks and volcanic rocks of the Greenwater Formation; the same geological setting as Delta’s Eureka Gold Zone. “Delta has assembled an outstanding land package with significant potential for multiple deposits, not only for gold mineralization, but also for magmatic copper-nickel deposits such as the former producing Inco Mine. The Delta team is already working up new gold targets for further testing later in 2024. We are anxious to reveal the true potential of this newly acquired ground as Delta takes a significant controlling land position in the Eastern Shebandowan Greenstone Belt.” said André Tessier, President and CEO. 🔸TSX-V: DLTA | OTCBB: DTARF | Frankfurt: 6G01 🔸 #Delta1 #Gold #GoldMining #Mining #Exploration #Investing #TSX #ThunderBay #Ontario #CanadianMining See the full news release ➡️https://lnkd.in/gzrXscM9

A record number of mine emergency rescue teams put their skills to the test at the South Australian Mines Emergency Response Competition (SAMERC) last week. Nine teams competed across 10 scenarios designed to test their skills and knowledge in the event they are called on to respond to a mine emergency. The 2024 event was hosted by BHP’s Olympic Dam with most scenarios staged in the Roxby Downs township from October 18–20. The underground scenario was staged at the nearby Olympic Dam mine site, which is about 570km north of Adelaide. Olympic Dam is the largest underground mine in South Australia and touted to be the fourth largest copper deposit in the world. This year’s teams included the first ever entry from New Zealand, OceanaGold Corporation NZ and two teams from New South Wales, Newmont Australia’s Cadia Valley and Metals Acquisition Limited’s CSA mine. 🌍 Sudbury, Ontario: From Railway Discovery to Economic Powerhouse 🌍 Did you know Sudbury's mining industry started almost by accident? When the Canadian Pacific Railway was being built in the 1880s, workers struck something unexpected while blasting through the Sudbury Basin: one of the world’s richest deposits of nickel and copper. This discovery marked the beginning of Sudbury’s legacy as a global mining hub. Railways played a critical role in this finding. As workers connected Canada coast-to-coast, the rail lines opened access to untapped resources, uncovering vast mineral deposits in Northern Ontario. This early infrastructure helped shape not only Sudbury’s economy but also Canada’s role in mining. Since then, Sudbury has flourished. The region has transformed from a rugged mining town to a vibrant city that remains a cornerstone of Canada’s resource economy. With its diverse ecosystem of mining, innovation, and research, Sudbury is a leader in everything from mineral extraction to advanced technologies like battery electric vehicles for underground mining. Today, Sudbury continues to be a massive contributor to Canada’s economy, powering industries around the world and driving forward-looking changes for a sustainable future. #SudburyProud #MiningLegacy #CanadianMining #EconomicImpact #Innovation #BlackRockEngineering
