13 months ago, we took a leap of faith and launched Contractors, Closers & Connections (CCC) of Kansas City with one mission: to create a networking platform that truly brought Kansas City's movers and shakers together. Our vision wasn’t just to talk about real estate—it was to make deals happen. We didn’t know if the commercial real estate (CRE) community would show up. But guess what? We knew one thing for sure: we were going to do it anyway. Now, here we are, hosting the final CCC of KC event of 2024, and what an incredible journey it has been! If you’ve attended one of our events this past year, you already know the energy, the connections, and the opportunities we’ve created together. 💼🔥 But here’s the thing: you don’t have to wait for the “perfect moment” to jump in. What is an Official Plan? It is a long-range planning document that sets out goals, objectives, and policies to guide growth and development in a municipality, and directs how land in a municipality should be used. Land use planning policies are complex and can include many aspects, from where and what types of housing are permitted, to the kinds of retail or industry that are needed, to what type of services are required to support the residents of a municipality. My Planning Team at the Town of Essex, Ontario, in collaboration with our planning consultant WSP in Canada, is hosting three (3) Open Houses to present and review the Town's Draft New Official Plan. Happy to have attended this engaging debate. It was encouraging to hear the green party candidate highlight the importance of social enterprise in business development for the region and the need to expand initiatives like retrofit to respond to the challenges we face. I still left with an uneasy sense that none of the main parties are really having an honest conversation about the scale of the existential crisis we face as a society. As a result the policies proposed don't address these challenges sufficiently. Instead many even risk exacerbating existing inequalities and accelerating climate breakdown. There's a lot of talk about good growth but the devil is in the detail. Do the policies proposed really address the above sufficiently and leave a society resilient enough to withstand and adapt to the accelerating pressures we will face? I remain entirely unconvinced.
