I travelled much the same road, but starting already in 1996. The fundamental issue remains always the same and you can hear it, if you listen, in the persistent compelling desire, as mentioned in the post here, of architects and engineers to make technical drawings. I learned finally to think about WHY, and to take that seriously. It’s not ‘because they’re tech laggards’. It’s for fundamental reasons, reasons that are true all the way down. Technical professionals must articulate expressions of visual close study (VCS). And instantiate them in their mental models of the project. This creates a loop, a loop that -is- the engine of thought. It IS a thinking machine. VCS need not remain stuck in its centuries-old form of expression. It WILL evolve. Here’s a proposal: https://lnkd.in/dSZ6NvBG
Redefine how you work with IFC by leveraging Bonsai’s IFC-native capabilities — Message me ‘Bonsai’ to get started
This is the story of Lloyd Bussio / Ifc Architect: In my previous firm, I was that guy – always pushing for full BIM, trying the latest tools, making the switch to Revit while everyone clung to AutoCAD. I believed in progress, but... "This will revolutionize our workflow!" (It could've, but didn't). "The investment in new software pays off." (The costs only soared). "Perfection in modeling will win projects." (It didn't). Chasing the cutting-edge led me down a path of isolation. I became the odd one out, advocating for tools no one wanted to adopt I watched as my well-meaned efforts turned into a costly endeavor Constantly battling software subscriptions and compatibility issues Every project felt like convincing others to take a leap they resisted It was a cycle of frustration and second-guessing my push for innovation That's when I stumbled upon BlenderBIM. Initially, a side tool for rendering and concept modeling, it became my beacon of simplicity in a sea of complexity. I discovered BlenderBIM after leaving my firm to venture on my own It was a revelation: powerful, efficient, and, most importantly, open-source I started converting all my Revit work, marveling at the ease and speed What began as an experiment turned into my mainstay for architectural modeling It aligned perfectly with the open standards I'd championed for so long This transition wasn't just about adopting a new tool; it was about embracing a philosophy that valued openness, collaboration, and efficiency over proprietary constraints and steep costs. BlenderBIM didn't just change my workflow; it reshaped my approach to BIM I began sharing my journey, helping others see the potential of open-source BIM The response was overwhelming: a community of architects and engineers eager to learn, adapt, and innovate And here's the exciting part: I'm now leading a BlenderBIM masterclass, crafted from my own journey of discovery, frustration, and eventual triumph It's not just about learning a software; it's about transforming how you think about and execute BIM projects If you're ready to make the switch like I did, to embrace a world of possibilities with BlenderBIM, now is your chance. Join me in the BlenderBIM masterclass. Dive deep into a tool that's reshaping our industry, led by someone who's lived through the transformation. 👉 Link in the comments below. Your move.

Building product manufacturers, listen up! ✍️ Our latest BIMcontent.com April 2024 Statistics Report reveals an interesting trend: older versions of Revit like 2020, 2021, and 2022 still dominate Revit content format downloads. But why❓ Even with Revit 2025's recent release, many designers are still accessing Revit content in earlier versions, because: - Revit content is not backwards compatible (i.e. you can't put Revit content from a later version into a project that's running in an older version) - You can't 'back-save' Revit content - Because a lot of ongoing projects are still running in older versions of Revit, and they don't always get 'upgraded' to a newer Revit version during the design process ✨ Key takeaways for building product manufacturers: ✅ There's great benefit in providing your Revit library in multiple versions of Revit ✅ You definitely do NOT want to limit the usability of your Revit content by only offering it in the latest Revit version! At IGS Group (IGS BIM Solutions), we understand the importance of accessibility. We help manufacturers create BIM content compatible with multiple Revit versions, ensuring a greater number of designers can seamlessly integrate your products into their projects. 💻 If you are a manufacturer looking to create BIM content for your products for the first time or update your existing Revit library to meet designer needs, reach out to us today!

🌟 Hey BIM Explorers 🌟 As a hardcore Archicad BIM user with a penchant for exploring open-source products, I recently decided to revisit FreeCAD's BIM workbench after some time away. Let me tell you—it was quite the journey! Spending a whole Sunday immersed in FreeCAD was both challenging and exhilarating, but I must say, the results were beyond my expectations. While FreeCAD is primarily known for mechanical engineering and assembly modelling, I was pleasantly surprised by its robust BIM capabilities. Despite the initial learning curve, I managed to create a remarkable architectural model inspired by the stunning designs of YuugaDesign. 🏗️ Setting a one-day time limit was ambitious, but it pushed me to unleash my creativity and problem-solving skills. Although my rendition wasn't a replica, it captured the essence of the original design, and that's what truly matters. What truly captivated me were FreeCAD's Sketcher workbench and its ability to parametrically interconnect properties. And let's not forget about the seamless integration with spreadsheets—a feature that proved to be a game-changer in my workflow. 📊 I'm excited to share my journey and insights as I continue to explore FreeCAD's capabilities. Join me as we dive deeper into the world of open-source BIM tools, revolutionizing architectural design one model at a time! 💡 #BIM #OpenSource #ArchitecturalDesign #FreeCAD #SketcherWorkbench #ParametricModeling #blender #bimmodeling

Learning and practicing Revit is an ongoing process. It usually depends on your professional needs, or on times when developers present a new version of a product, like it is happening with Revit 2025 these few days. You have to continuously explore new tools and techniques, whether you’re just starting or already have experience. Here are 3 essential Revit tools that everyone should try and use: ✅Align tool is a useful and fast way to modify elements in Revit. It allows you to align, distribute, or organize selected elements, annotations, tags, and text along the axis you specify. To use it, select the Align tool in the Modify tab, click the reference element, then click the element to move. It can move and rotate elements simultaneously and allows you to lock elements together so they move as one. ✅Detail Lines tool is ideal for quick layout experiments, Detail Lines are visible only in a single view and are not part of the 3D model. They provide additional information in detail and drafting views, making it easier to work with dimensions and layouts. ✅Tab Visibility The latest and exclusive update of our BIMPROVE Add-In that helps you to create a workspace with only tabs you’re currently using on display. With “Tab Visibility”, you have the power to hide them effortlessly, optimizing your workflow. 1. Open the Revit application, simply navigate to the «BIMprove» tab, and run the «Tab Visibility». 2. Add or delete tabs with an intuitive toggle button that corresponds to each tab’s name. 2.1 The toggle buttons for System tabs and Add-Ins tabs allow you to efficiently alter all children tabs and to tailor Revit to your needs. Was this brief list helpful? Share your thoughts and tell me what tools you use the most during your Revit workflow! 😡 Revit's inability to back-save families has caused many a headache over the years. This is why when we built BIMcontent.com, being able to provide all Revit content in multiple versions was a non-negotiable feature. Although upgrading projects happens a little more frequently than it perhaps used to, there are still times when designers need families to work in projects that haven't been upgraded, and Revit content therefore needs to be available in an earlier version. 🤔 The discussion / argument around what is 'best practice' for authoring Revit content that will be distributed publicly (e.g. manufacturer content) depends on various factors such as what specific type of element / content it is (i.e. are there features in recent Revit versions that would allow the content to be of more value?), but nevertheless, I think most users would agree it's certainly not great for public / manufacturer content to only be available in the most recent version. When IGS Group (IGS BIM Solutions) builds Revit libraries for manufacturers, we usually take the approach of building the base-version content in at least 3 or sometimes 4 versions back from the current one, as we find this allows for a nice balance of maximising compatibility for designers who may have projects running in older versions and - thanks to a lack of major updates / innovations to the family editor in recent release of Revit - doesn't really compromise the features we can build into the content. This also means we can better version-control the libraires and make all the Revit content on BIMcontent.com available to download in at least 3-4 versions of Revit. This is especially helpful where a large library is being downloaded, as users can download the content in the version that suits their practice library or project, and they don't have to manually up-save all the content.
