The CNCR, Center for Neurogenomics & Cognitive Research in Amsterdam (see www.cncr.nl) participates in the Graduate School ONWAR (www.ONWAR.nl) and is seeking applications for a PhD-student in cellular #neuroscience (cell biology, RNA #biology, super-resolution & live-cell imaging). Project: To decipher how mRNAs are captured at specific subcellular locations to support local translation in neurons In this project, you will use genetic and imaging tools developed in the Koppers lab together with live-cell imaging and super-resolution #imaging to investigate how different organelles and organelle contacts coordinate mRNA transport, localization and translation in #neurons to support neuron function and survival. In addition, you will use proximity #proteomics to identify proteins involved in organelle-mRNA contacts. The work will be carried out in rodent neurons in culture and human iPSC-derived neurons. More details can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eAfq937B Deadline: October 16th, 2024. #cellbiology #scholarshipopportunities #graduateschool #gradschool #phd #phdposition #funding #research #university #theqayersgroup and #keepyourdreamsalive

Presynaptic long-term potentiation (LTP) is a type of synaptic plasticity that boosts the release of neurotransmitters from the presynaptic neuron, leading to a stronger synaptic connection. This mechanism is essential for learning and memory. NMDAR-dependent long-term depression (LTD) is a type of synaptic plasticity that weakens synaptic transmission. This mechanism is crucial for refining synaptic connections and plays a significant role in learning, memory, and maintaining synaptic balance. mGluR-dependent long-term depression (LTD) is a type of synaptic plasticity driven by metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs). This mechanism results in a sustained reduction in synaptic strength and plays a crucial role in adjusting synaptic transmission, fine-tuning neural circuits, and supporting learning and memory processes. #Biotech #LifeSciences #Science #Research #STEM #Biotechnology #Bioinformatics #Genetics #CellBiology #Microbiology #Neuroscience #Chemistry #Pharmacology #Biochemistry #Genomics #CRISPR #DrugDiscovery #LabLife #Scientist #STEMeducation #ScienceCommunication #Biology #Healthcare #Innovation #TechInnovation #Bioengineering #ScienceNews #LabResearch #ScienceIsFun
