Last year we as EFPIA launched the rocket 🚀 for our journey to deliver on the 👉🏾 Commission Roadmap to Phase out ⏳ Animal Safety Testing for Chemicals, sorted our animal work into 🗑🗑🗑 and agreed on the achieved 🙌. Today we presented the results to our stakeholders from EMA, EC and NGOs, obtained positive feedback 👏🏽 and discussed next steps to proceed with the exercise. Our industry provided full transparency 🔎 about study types that we do not want to execute any longer but are still mandated by some countries outside EU although providing no scientific value (B1), those that have immature alternatives that require further development including qualification or just hypotheses for replacement exist (B2) and those that we cannot imagine solutions for today, but hope to find ways to replace them in the future (B3). Study types of B2+B3 additionally require further refinement of procedures and housing standards to avoid negative impact on the wellbeing of all our remaining animals 🐭🐟🐵🐶🐷🐰🐹🐶🐔🐑.

AI in abattoirs, The Pitch... How can AI transform the meat processing sector? Impetus Animal Welfare has the opportunity to pitch to the Australian industry on how this new technology can transform animal welfare (and human performance). We are in the process of testing the implementation of systems in various abattoirs in Australia. Our tech partners Argus.CV have been leading the way in AI tech development in abattoirs in Europe. With lots of movement in the AI space it is exciting to be focused on the practical and commercial implementation, not just proof of concept.

It's encouraging to see such a strong advocacy for the acceleration of New Approach Methodologies #NAMs in #onehealth #risk #assessments and the phasing out of #invivo #animal #testing #methods within the #EU and embrace the #21stcentury science with #invitro #insilico #biomedical for many of the #emerging #health #threats we are facing also beyond the conventional #chemical testing and listing the critical aspects that #delay the #uptake of these new #technologies. At the Joint Research Centre's Digital Health Unit EU Science, Research and Innovation our commitment to fostering #innovation in #digital #health #solutions and #methodologies is our key priority. We utilize a #transdisciplinary #approach, merging #insilico, #invitro, and #invivo methods to predict and prevent #one #health #threats, which is directly aligned with the principles and vision of projects like e.g. ONTOX led masterly by Mathieu Vinken connecting us all! Our digital health focus extends beyond #publichealth to encompass the broader One Health context, where human-centered technologies are pivotal. We are actively developing #computational models, #epidemiological tools, and #bioinformatics resources to support science-based policy-making, via the transdisciplinary risk portfolio at the core of the JRC's work. The #SciWalker #MAAtrica tool we've advanced based on work we did with European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) on #risk assessment of #environmental pollutants and the #climate #change link represents the #collaborative spirit that drives our engagement with stakeholders across #academia, #industry, and #regulatory bodies. We Giulia Panzarella myself and our transdisciplinary JRC teams are exited about the potential for our tool to contribute to this call of acceleration really #feelingscience and our shared goals for a #healthier #future for all #animals #people #biodiversity #ecosystems #environment and use the toolbox for dealing with extreme #crisis and #conflicts events. This is a future underpinned by a #robust #scientific #experimental and #digital #toolbox, including embracing #digital health tools and #AI.

💬 Customers Ask - We Answer ❓ Why don’t we conduct all of the tests at the same time? “Firstly, to ensure animal welfare and minimize the need for and extent of animal testing, products should undergo animal tests only after passing at least a few basic biocompatibility evaluations, such as cytotoxicity testing and chemical analysis. Secondly, this approach is also cost-effective. Conducting cytotoxicity tests (and chemical analyses) can provide a high probability of determining whether a medical product is biocompatible.
