finally we have found the Key. After years of building VF around the world and finding the same mistakes been made by vertical farms. mistakes like wrong crop choice, LED's to close to top of crops, To high wattage of leds thinking they get quicker growth, far to high Humidity or temp thinking quicker growth, crop to high a density thinking more plants high yield. The Government of Canada is investing $12.5 million in six projects aimed at decarbonizing the forestry sector in British Columbia. These initiatives focus on developing clean technologies to reduce industrial emissions. Among the projects, The University of British Columbia will use byproducts from the pulp and paper industry to capture CO2 emissions, while Highbury Energy Inc. will explore using renewable fuel gas from wood residues to replace natural gas at the Cariboo Pulp and Paper Mill. https://lnkd.in/gmt3kE6m

Every year, 15 billion trees are cut down, producing 4 billion cubic meters of wood. Half of that—2 billion cubic meters—is burned for fuel, heating around 50 million homes annually. Another 1.2 billion cubic meters is used for sawnwood and veneer, enough to build 12 million average-sized homes or craft 12 billion chairs. The remaining 800 million cubic meters go into paper production, yielding roughly 320 billion reams of paper The biomass we waste every year: 13.68 billion tonnes. If fully utilized, this biomass could heat 684 million homes—13X more than the fuelwood we use now. Processed into construction materials, it could build 45.6 million homes—nearly 4X wood. For furniture, it could craft 45.6 billion chairs, also 4X wood. And for paper, biomass could produce 5.47 trillion reams, 17X than trees currently provide While forests are razed to the ground, the agricultural biomass we burn or discard could meet these demands many X over. Trees are finite and take decades to grow, while agricultural waste is an annual renewable resource. The math is undeniable: biomass isn’t just a viable alternative—it’s the superior one. By shifting from deforestation to utilizing wasted biomass, we could leave forests untouched, protect ecosystems, and still produce far more of what we need

SolarPower Europe has developed an 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 handbook with the farming industry to guide projects. It said the resource for farmers and solar developers is a “win-win-win” for agriculture, energy, and society. The handbook lists benefits such as up to a 60% increase in crop yield, depending on crop type, season, regional climate, and PV setup. It also highlights soil temperature changes, with increases of up to 7 C during cold periods and decreases of up to 6 C during warm periods. The handbook lists additional benefits, including up to an 80% increase in soil carbon storage for solar grazing projects, a 20% to 30% boost in water retention for interrow and elevated PV systems, and a 60% rise in pollinator presence, as observed in one project. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eDuUe2vj #RenewableEnergy #SolarEnergy #Sustainable #GreenGrowth

Much of the magic happens underwater, so as it's harvest season, we wanted to share the seaweed journey - from rope to boat. 🪢 🌿 At this scale it is a hands-on process: seed lines are disconnected from the farm grid, hauled in by hand and kelp fronds cut off with a sharp knife. The team then loads the kelp into big buckets, ready to be processed! This works well for our pilot farm whilst we're growing. But at scale, what could harvesting look like? Harvesting at scale will require larger boats, a bigger crew (a boost for aquaculture jobs in the region) and automation to mechanically haul in lines and strip the growth. We are developing a processing system to process kelp at sea, preserving biomass immediately after harvest for the best quality product. #SeaweedFarming #Kelp #Seaweed #Aquaculture
