Last week, leaders from across Australia’s #lifesciences ecosystem gathered in Canberra for the first-ever National Biotech and Medtech Development and Commercialisation Summit, hosted by #AusBiotech and MTPConnect. The discussions were rich and future-focused, tackling four critical areas: health protection, commercialisation challenges, capital growth, and workforce development. From these conversations, three themes emerged, including the need for: 1️⃣ A national strategy for the life sciences sector 2️⃣ Industry to be a unified, strategic and sophisticated partner 3️⃣ Greater leverage of the industry’s expertise and knowledge Today, #AusBiotech and MTPConnect are releasing a short joint Communique that seeks to capture the major themes from the Summit, however, there is more work to do. The insights and ideas generated at the Summit and the responses to the Discussion Paper are now being fully collated, distilled and prioritised to generate actionable, forward-looking recommendations. These will inform a joint pre-budget submission for the 2024/25 Federal Budget and an upcoming White Paper, outlining a roadmap for advancing Australia’s life sciences industry. Together, we’re building a stronger future for Australia’s life sciences industry. Read the full Communique below and follow AusBiotech and MTPConnect to stay up to date with our work. https://lnkd.in/gr8m-aEM Rebekah Cassidy, James Campbell, Karyn McIntosh, Stuart Dignam, Hon. Keynote at Swiss Nordic Bio: Exploring the Future of Healthcare - can we square a circle? Last Thursday, I had the privilege to give a keynote speech at the Swiss Nordic Bio conference. Did you know that the Nordic countries and Switzerland rank among the world's happiest nations? The individual freedom we have and the ability to participate in the public debate and shape our societies are critical factors driving this happiness. As such the participants broadly agreed that we need to play an active role in ensuring innovation and high quality, accessible healthcare remains a top priority for our governments and societies, particularly in this pivotal year where EU Parliament but also many local governments are being elected. We discussed what would be needed to "square the circle" in healthcare, i.e. solve the seemingly unsolvable problem of providing broader access and better quality care to a growing and aging population in light of scarce resources. We explore the role that data and technologies can play in supporting a seamless and highly effective care journey, from prevention, to diagnosis and treatment. And we acknowledged that, while required technologies are at our fingertips, the reality in clinical practice still looks very different. To achieve the vision of data and technology enabled, more personalized care, we must cultivate the right people, forge meaningful partnerships, and enact progressive policies. The journey ahead may seem daunting, but with determination and collaboration, we could square the circle in healthcare. Thank you to the event main sponsors Nasdaq and Eversheds Sutherland and partners Innovation Norway, Vontobel, Embassy of Sweden, and Innosuisse Swiss Innovation Agency. #PersonalizedHealthcare #swissnordicbio #investors #lifescience #innovation #biotech #medtech #Nordics #Switzerland #conference #healthcare

AusBiotech 2024 promotes innovation, collaboration, commercialisation and equalisation. Reflecting on the themes of last week's events in Melbourne, we were inspired by the economic and social impact Australia's life sciences sector is having, and by the increasing role of new technologies in addressing healthcare inequities. We valued the opportunity to network with industry peers, explore new projects, and strengthen existing ones, setting the stage for an exciting 2025. Throughout the week we attended and sponsored several engaging events. We thank: • Invest Victoria and Global Victoria for their networking luncheon to welcome AmCham Australia, and their Victorian Networking Reception for health, biotech and life sciences professionals, at which welcome addresses were delivered by The Hon. Tim Pallas and Dr Amanda Caples. • MTPConnect, Nucleus Network and Global R&D Pty Ltd for partnering with us to present ‘The Australian Advantage’ to the visiting delegation from Korea, Japan and Taiwan. • AusBiotech CEO, Rebekah Cassidy, and Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care, The Hon. Mark Butler MP, for their keynote addresses on the opening day of the conference. • AusBiotech and BioMelbourne Network for both their networking event and the establishment of their new MOU which will strengthen collaboration between the two organisations and benefit our industry. • AusBiotech for recognising the life and achievements of Dr Iris Depaz from Sanofi, both through The Depaz Oration and the establishment of the Iris Depaz Award, following her sad passing. • Life Sciences Queensland Ltd (LSQ), in particular Natalie Davis and Sally Dillon, for their networking evening. It is always great to connect with Queensland industry colleagues and partners. We are already looking forward to next year’s meeting and the incredible progress we will have made as an industry by this time. #AusBiotech2024 #lifesciences #biotechnology #innovation #collaboration #commercialisation #equalisation #clinicaltrials #TheAustralianAdvantage
