Helena Gaspar group leader of the Molecular Biodiscovery and Functional Bioanalysis Lab (BioISI - Biosystems & Integrative Sciences Institute - Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa) took part of a study, in collaboration with Kosmicare, which revealed that several samples sold as Ketamine were a mixture of 2-Oxo-PCE (a more potent dissociative anesthetic drug) and caffeine, which resulted in a drug usage warning. These results are very impactful for those who use ketamine since the dissociative effects of 2-Oxo-PCE manifest later upon consumption, are more potent and last longer than the ones induced by Ketamine. This combination of factors would lead users to take higher risks while consuming these type of products. Our experts conducted an in-depth comparison between batch and continuous direct compression via multivariate data analyses, revealing the benefits of selecting appropriate excipients and process settings to achieve specific outcomes. This comparison considers key differentiators between the two processes.  In our latest study, conducted in collaboration with Ghent University and GEA Group, we demonstrate that the impact of filler type, drug load, and process settings was similar for both batch and continuous direct compression.
