🌟 A heartfelt thank you to the Biopôle Lausanne team for the remarkable event yesterday, co-organized with digitalswitzerland, focusing on the unique challenges digital health startups and scale-ups encounter during the crucial transition from design to deployment. Yesterday's event illuminated the path for many of us in the digital health sector. Tigen Pharma's presentation was a highlight, brilliantly outlining their comprehensive framework. They covered everything from equipment setup, data collection strategies, to the integration of digital twins and business applications. This structured approach ensures consistency across platforms used in CGT autologous clinical trials, which is nothing short of essential. The panel discussion was equally enlightening, exploring critical topics like patient centricity, intellectual property rights, IT infrastructure, and MDR standards. Each panellist brought profound insights that underscored the importance of maintaining focus on these areas as we move from the design and development phase into clinical trials. 🔍 The takeaways from this event are invaluable as we strive to navigate the complex landscape of digital health innovation. Thanks for a couple of good days in Copenhagen at LSX Nordic! It has been a good opportunity to catch up with partners in the Danish life science innovation ecosystem and share our lessons and reflections on how Nordic innovators can make the most of opportunities in the US. A couple of insights from the conference: 💡 On nationalism and regionalism: Denmark stands out as one of the most dense and well-supported biotech hubs in Europe. However, to succeed globally, we need the Nordics as a region to drive excellence. 💡 It is easy and cheap to say, but much harder to do—we need patients, clinicians, and nurses to be more involved, and more meaningfully involved, in all stages of healthcare innovation. While it is easy to point fingers at others who should do more, we need to start by asking ourselves: how can we embody this in our work? 💡 In discussions on Nordic healthcare innovation, the US market is always a key consideration, either directly or in the background. It’s encouraging that across the Nordics, even early-stage ventures understand that to drive impact, business, and investment, they must develop products and business cases that work beyond the region. Making it across the Atlantic requires solid homework, serious field work, and high quality network. After #AusMedtech2024, what's next for our sector? The Australian medical technology ecosystem is flourishing, covering nearly 600 companies and boasting the highest rate of growth in life sciences according to AusBiotech research. But that doesn't mean the work is over – one of the major takeaways from AusMedtech 2024 is that the medtech innovation system is disconnected and fragmented. A national approach to medtech that pools resources and speaks in a single voice to government is a top priority, helping connect people and facilities to enable innovation across the sector. As a voice to industry, the VMH has a role to play in this too, collaborating with our colleagues at AusBiotech, the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA), ANDHealth, The Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF), the Medical Device Partnering Program, and BioMelbourne Network to help unify the sector. We already have the infrastructure, skills, technical expertise, and training resources necessary to accelerate medtech in Australia, it's just about getting it into the right hands. The VMH is helping to bridge this gap through our Navigator initiative, connecting government, academia, and businesses to better make use of our state’s amazing medtech capabilities.
