EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries and members had the pleasure to be part of an European Policy Centre Executive Breakfast dedicated to the EU Clean Industrial Deal. The meeting was wide-ranging in terms of technologies and sectors, trying to join the dots for Europe between climate goals and a prosperous EU. For Jean-Paul El Ahl and myself, ‘prosperity’ is the key, with prosperity of citizens as the KPI, so that they can take the journey towards a sustainable Europe without risk to access and affordability of essentials such as food, heating and healthcare. #Innovation is THE key to achieving this. Only through innovation do we create the productivity, employment and sector security needed for citizens to feel prosperous and walk the pathway of a sustainable transition. We need to champion the innovative technologies that deliver prosperity whatever the sector, and look to the incoming Commission and Parliament to help innovators deliver.

🌱Make a difference: The Biocontrol Coalition's call to action ✒ In our last post, we shed light on a concerning statistic: only 5 to 6 new biocontrol active ingredients have been introduced to the European market each year over the past decade. Coupled with the lengthy 8 to 10-year timeline for bringing new products to market, it's clear that we're facing significant challenges in the path towards innovation. Our open letter to President Ursula von der Leyen confronts these challenges head-on and lays out a roadmap towards a more innovative and sustainable future. We're calling on the Commission to prioritize biocontrol innovation by including a dedicated item in its 2024-29 work program. We need your support to drive this initiative forward. Join the growing group of voices advocating for change. ✒ Read and sign the Open Letter today: https://lnkd.in/e2NJ6Rhb 🌿 Join the Biocontrol Coalition: https://lnkd.in/eP8Eajyg #BiocontrolInnovation #SustainableAgriculture #EUCommission #OpenLetter

Let's boost biosolutions in 2025 with a bold Biotech Act, as biosolutions are the key to Europe's competitiveness, resilience and sustainability. 🚀 That’s why DI Bio are the founding and hosting member of the European Biosolutions Coalition, and why we are tirelessly working to boost the economy through European innovations that can lead to a re-industrialization of our continent. With known biosolutions we can cut 8 percent of global CO2 emissions by 2030 – and even more with biosolutions being developed right now. We can also create tens of thousands of green industrial jobs and green growth, which Europe cannot miss out on. Therefore, the task ahead is clear: The EU Biotech Act must be ambitious and address current legislative barriers, outdated regulation, lack of financing and scaling opportunities keeping biosolutions from contributing to solving our most urgent problems. So, let’s not wait – let’s boost biosolutions now!🌱

📢 New #EUBioeconomy report! 💡 Unlocking the full potential of the EU's bioeconomy requires more than just innovative technologies and policies - it demands a collaborative approach that brings together diverse stakeholders and perspectives The latest report, "Enhancing Stakeholder Involvement in EU Bioeconomy Policy", sheds a light on the critical role that stakeholder engagement plays in shaping a sustainable and circular bioeconomy. By identifying key gaps and opportunities for improvement, we can work together to create a more inclusive, effective, and responsive bioeconomy policy that benefits everyone. 🌿 Here are the key recommendations from this report to take our bioeconomy to the next level: - Creating a platform that brings together diverse stakeholders and facilitate collaboration and knowledge-sharing - Supporting a more structured stakeholder engagement - Making information on the EU bioeconomy more widely available and easier to access, so everyone can get involved and contribute - Simplifying the definition of the bioeconomy, so we can all speak the same language and work towards a common goal - Amplifying the awareness-raising work of the Youth Ambassadors programme, to inspire and mobilise the next generation of bioeconomy leaders - Establishing a more permanent dialogue between organisations and the European Commission - Increasing active engagement of Member States 🔗 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/ekNvcaxA 🔗 Read the policy brief: https://lnkd.in/eNVGwaNN

Happy International Day of Biological Diversity! 🌱As #COP16 is approaching, we are called to accelerate the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework #GBF targets. With #agriculture being one of the main drivers of the #biodiversitycrisis, this means changing the way we grow and eat our #food. At the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT our researchers are working with #NARIS and #farmers to co-create nature-positive solutions that ensure livelihoods and #foodsecurity, while conserving #biodiversity through our genebanks in Cali 🇨🇴 and in Leuven 🇧🇪. Yet, to accelerate the adoption of nature positive practices we need to go a step further and work with Governments to create the enabling policies and reorient public incentives towards more sustainable production models. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Fall might be here and it is darker outside but the biosolutions agenda is blooming 🌱 Our scale-up member 21st.BIO made it to the cover of Danish newspaper Berlingske Business yesterday stating that their biosolutions technology to produce among other fascinating products proteins for milk without cows could be the next big export adventure for Denmark. This is the case for biosolutions all over Europe. They can be the next big green adventure helping to reduce emissions and achieve our green goals AND increase European resilience and competitiveness and create new green jobs 💪 However some grey clouds are looming 🌧️ 21st Bio got an approval to go to market in the US this year but it will take several years to get approval in the EU. We need to change this with the coming EU Biotech Act 🇪🇺🤝 And in addition they/we need a factory to make their ambitions happen. Preferably in Denmark. But who will chip in and help finance such a facility? Important challenges which we will keep working to adress both in DI Bio and the European Biosolutions Coalition It might be a marathon but we will keep going 🏃♀️➡️
