Liam Pratt (Owner/Director at Biodiverse Environmental) and Justin Watson (Principal Ecologist/Director at Gondwana Ecology Group) recently met up to check on the progress of the rehabilitation offset site at Wallum Lane, Noosa Heads. It is fantastic to see the amount of growth achieved within the first 18 months and to see that the rehabilitation project is on track to achieving a positive outcome. The rehabilitation project was a collaborative effort, involving Biodiverse Environmental, Keyton and BlueCare. #biodiverseenvironmental #conservation #sunshinecoast #queensland #ecologicalservices #biodiversity #native #environment #bushregeneration #keyton #bluecare #gondwanaecologygroup

📸Tien-Shan Brown Bear in Zaamin's camera trap A Tien Shan brown bear was caught in a camera trap of the Zaamin State Reserve under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change. A Tien-Shan Brown Bear is listed in the IUCN Red List and the Red Book of Uzbekistan as a vulnerable, mosaically distributed subspecies. It lives in the Western Tien Shan and Pamir Alay (in Tashkent, Jizzakh, Surkhandarya, Kashkadarya, and Samarkand regions of the republic). In the 1970s and 1980s, their numbers in the Western Tien Shan were only 200-220 individuals, but thanks to conservation measures, the number of brown bears has stabilized in recent decades and amounts to more than 500 individuals throughout the country. According to the autumn accounting of the current year, the number of brown bears in the territory of the Zaamin State Reserve amounted to 24 individuals. For reference: The Zaamin State Reserve was established on June 5, 1928, on the territory of the Zaamin and Bakhmal districts of the Jizzakh region. The reserve is home to 149 species of animals, 17 of which are listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan.

We only just started at Solas but already we’ve achieved so much. We work with our Ecologist partner Solway Ecology to come up with pragmatic intervention and application methods. Our first land partner is Dumfries & Galloway council #DGcouncil where we are establishing our systems and methodology. In so doing we are helping D&G to improve their biodiversity on sites that are currently – in some cases – adding to their negative balance and both in carbon and biodiversity. We are also looking to improve sites that are close to people and have them involved with the creation and ongoing low-key management. Citizen science is likely to play an important role in the ongoing management and observations of each site. Has anyone got any good examples of Citizen Science approaches they could share? #biodiversity #solasfornature #socialenterprise #insectlife #nativewildflowers

The Mekong Delta is home to some of the world's most important wetland habitats. But with a major transport canal being proposed through Cambodia, these wetlands are at risk. This latest research paper suggests a series of mitigation approaches to minimise the impact of the canal on the surrounding environment. WWT are committed to working in partnership to ensure our precious wetlands continue to thrive and enrich the lives of those around them.
🚨 🚧 👇 ❗ Major infrastructure projects have had a substantial impact on the ecology of the Mekong delta. Unless serious mitigation measures are planned and adopted, the latest proposed development, a transport canal through Cambodia, will fragment and degrade vital habitat, including Protected Areas. In this newly published Nature Ecology & Evolution paper we propose a series of mitigation approaches. WWT look forward to working with the government of Cambodia, and all relevant stakeholders, to minimise the impact on the critically important wetlands of Cambodia’s Mekong delta. Please reach out if you would like to support these efforts. https://lnkd.in/epZDyQHT

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) offers an inspiring and hopeful mechanism to drive action by restoring nature lost via development, further increasing the importance of addressing the skills and evidence gap within the ecology field. The Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) Autumn Conference has been a very insightful morning so far, with sessions focussing on aligning best practice with governance, stream and river restoration and involving landowners in nature recovery monitoring. Drop by our stand to understand how our team are underway with more than 2,500 acres of nature restoration.

Why is the relationship between people and nature important? And how can we honour it in our work in the built environment? We talked with members of the Buro Happold ecology and biodiversity team to consider how those of us in the built environment are central in implementing biodiversity and ecology initiatives for the betterment of people, places and the planet. Mónica Lozano Subiranas MCIEEM MIEnvSc, ecologist at Buro Happold. said, “In order to tackle the climate and biodiversity crises (the two are completely linked – one wouldn’t exist without the other) we need consider the ways that we are connected to nature.” Read more about the importance of the relationship we have with nature: bit.ly/3EN3zDV #BuroHappold #Engineering #Consultancy #Advisory #BuiltEnvironment #Construction #Biodiversity #Ecology #Nature #UrbanEnvironment #COP16
