🎉 The #CriticalMedicinesAlliance is launched! We are delighted to announce that we are now part of the European Union's Critical Medicines Alliance. Through our commitment to human health and our mission to prevent and combat shortages of critical medicines, we have joined forces with the European Commission to strengthen the supply of essential medicines such as heparin. Since our founding in 1975, we have recognised that heparin is an essential active component of human health and that it is indispensable to be able to offer the highest guarantees of safety and quality. As an essential company, we aim to make demand more predictable, diversify supply chains and promote local manufacturing. We firmly believe that collaboration and joint action are key to meeting the challenges we face in healthcare. #HumanHealth #Healthcare #HealthUnion #EHMA #HealthyCitizens #CriticalMedicinesAlliance #HERA #EUinEmergencies #CMA #Heparin

Curious about how the evolution of essential medicines is shaping healthcare? In his latest article, Zwelethu Bashman, President of IPASA and Managing Director of MSD sub-Saharan Africa, delves into the journey and ambitions of essential medicines lists (EMLs). From battlefield essentials to the quest for universal healthcare, discover how EMLs have transformed over the decades to address a wide spread of diseases. “Historically, EMLs have facilitated access to primary care and high-volume treatments, promoting cost-effective healthcare delivery worldwide. Today, the WHO's EML now includes 1200 recommendations for 591 drugs and 103 therapeutic equivalents, adapting to include children's medications and accommodate global health needs” remarks Zweli. 🌍 💊 The European Health Management Association (EHMA) is proud to be a part of the #CriticalMedicinesAlliance (CMA). Established in January 2024, the #CMA unites stakeholders from EU Member States, key industries, civil society, and the scientific community to enhance the supply of critical medicines within the EU. The alliance aims to prevent and address medicine shortages, ensuring timely and equitable access to medicines for all European patients in line with the goals of the European Health Union. As a part of the Alliance, EHMA advocate for the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) to prioritise the digitalisation and automation of medication management systems in EU hospitals. Real-time stock visibility is essential for the Critical Medicines Act, and EHMA supports a Medicines Alliance's project aiming for 90% digitalisation in EU hospitals by 2026, aligned with the #EU4Health program. EHMA also emphasises the importance of sharing best practices from regions or hospitals that have successfully invested in digitalisation to enhance medicine stock and demand data across the EU. ➡ Learn more about the Alliance: https://lnkd.in/ejCraq7K 📑 Read EHMA’s recommendations for hospitals' medication management pathways in our latest position paper: https://lnkd.in/ejCraq7K Together, we are committed to a future where all European patients have reliable access to the critical medicines they need. #HealthcareInnovation #EHMA #CriticalMedicinesAlliance #EUHealth #DigitalHealthcare #Pharmaceuticals #HealthManagement #EU4Health Laurent Muschel Stella Karavazaki Wolfgang Philipp Daphne Von Buxhoeveden Cornelius Schmaltz Olivier Girard Anne Simon European Alliance for Access to Safe Medicines

Medichem is committed to improving the #accessibility of medicines and therefore we believe it is crucial to address the existing challenges in the system. We draw attention to the Reform of the #EUPharmaLegislation and underline the need for a comprehensive #review. Key components include swift adoption of electronic product information, leveraging existing systems for supply chain transparency, a risk-based approach for #shortages prevention plans, extended shortages notifications, and an efficient regulatory procedure. Additionally, we advocate for a Medicines Security Act aligned with Member States Critical Medicines Acts and an EU medicines manufacturing strategy. Together, we can contribute to a resilient healthcare ecosystem, patient-centred and adaptable to the challenges of the future, by being able to prevent shortages and avoid jeopardising #patients' #access to healthcare. Read the drafted paper on Medicines for Europe position referring to the #EUPharmaStrategy review as it represents a huge opportunity to address shortages. https://lnkd.in/d8536QbU #AccessForAll #genericmedicines

I was honored to speak at the Global Digital Health Forum 2024 on the topic: Leveraging Serialization to Position Patient Safety at the Center of a Connected, Secure, and Open Global Supply Network, alongside USAID, our Global Office, and GHSC-PSM. Serialization and drug traceability systems are critical to enhancing visibility and ensuring a safe medication supply chain. These systems help create a more equitable healthcare landscape where individuals—regardless of socio-economic status—have access to safe drugs, leading to better health outcomes. By tracking a drug’s journey through the supply chain, traceability is essential in the fight against counterfeiting and diversion, which disproportionately impact vulnerable populations. Over the past seven years, significant progress has been made in serializing pharmaceuticals for low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). More than 90% of donor-procured pharmaceuticals in key product categories are now serialized, creating an environment where open standards and serialization can improve integration, interoperability, data visibility, and most importantly, patient safety. The panel was moderated by USAID and included experts from GS1 and the USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program–Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM). We explored how GS1 standards enable traceability and discussed global and national initiatives to advance end-to-end traceability, including patient safety, supply chain visibility, anti-counterfeiting, and NAFDAC’s role in supply chain security in Nigeria. Together, we are strengthening the global supply chain to ensure medicines are safe, accessible, and effective for all. #GlobalDigitalHealthForum2024 #Serialization #PatientSafety #ConnectedSupplyChain #SecureSupplyChain #GlobalHealth #DrugTraceability #CounterfeitPrevention #LMIC #GS1Healthcare #GS1Standards #SupplyChainVisibility #NAFDAC #HealthSupplyChain #GHSCPSM #USAID

📢 **Strengthening Medical Supply Security in Switzerland 🇨🇭💊** The “Yes to Medical Supply Security” initiative has reached an important milestone, with signatures now submitted to the Federal Chancellery. This initiative addresses the urgent need to secure reliable access to essential medicines in Switzerland, including critical treatments like antibiotics 🧬. With many production sites shifting abroad due to price pressures 🌍, the supply chain for medicinal products has become increasingly vulnerable. This initiative proposes a constitutional amendment to create a stable framework, ensuring access to essential medicines for Swiss residents. Supported by 16 industry associations, organizations, and companies, this initiative is a proactive step toward a more reliable healthcare system. More details and updates can be found at [Versorgungsinitiative](https://lnkd.in/gr7dK24N). 📄🔗 #MedicalSupplySecurity #SwissHealthcare #PublicHealth

Supporting access to critical medicines: Viatris' commitment in Europe This is an occasion to reflect on the policy measures that can further enhance access to critical medicines across the EU. By Artur Cwiok, Head of Viatris Europe and Executive Member of Medicines for Europe. In a context where off-patent medicines have doubled access to treatment in chronic disease areas3, as a recent IQVIA - Medicines for Europe study highlights, and they represent 70% of treatments dispensed in Europe while accounting for only 30% of healthcare costs4, policy measures that secure the economic viability of off-patent medicines are critical for stable and sustained access to treatments. There are five strategic policy recommendations we believe are critical to further enhance stable, sustainable access to critical medicines across the EU:. Embrace regulatory reform to streamline medicine access. https://lnkd.in/ewYXTZN3 #PublicHealth #Europe #StayInformed #StayEmpowered
