WORLD CANCER DAY World Cancer Day was established at the initiative of the International Union against Cancer and is held every year on 4 February. Cancer is a term used to describe a group of chronic diseases that can affect any part of the body. A defining characteristic of the disease is the uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells, which are infiltrative and/or metastatic. The treatment of the disease is aimed at removing or killing the cancer cells. The earlier the disease is diagnosed, the better the chances of survival for the affected person. If you’ve been reading CheckIt4Andretti’s blog, you already know that colon cancer screening can save lives. You also probably know that gastroenterologists recommend getting screened starting at age 45. Many people mistakenly think that colon cancer screening is too inconvenient, embarrassing or unpleasant, so they just never get around to getting it done. But what if there was a safe, convenient, and accurate blood test that you could get along with your cholesterol test and blood counts? That kind of test could be available very soon. Let’s take a closer look at the ctDNA blood test for colon cancer. Read our full blog at the link in our bio! #CheckIt4Andretti #ColonCancer #ColonCancerAwareness #GetScreened

November is National Lung Cancer Awareness Month—a good time to highlight the importance of early detection. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S., but early screening can significantly improve survival rates. The American Lung Association emphasizes the life-saving potential of low-dose CT scans for high-risk individuals. These scans can detect lung cancer at its earliest stages, when treatment is most effective. You can learn more about screening here: https://lnkd.in/eC26PfxA Early detection saves lives. This month, take a moment to encourage those at risk to get screened. #LungCancerAwareness #SavedByTheScan #EarlyDetectionSavesLives

I’d love to connect and discuss one of the largest modifiable risk factors you didn’t mention, ACE’s or adverse childood experiences. It would be interesting to see the comparison between these ACE’s and health risks, like cancer. The research that Dr. Felitti and Dr. Anda propose that the higher ACE score you have or more ACE’s you have, the higher your chances are for poor health outcomes. Your take on alcohol is interesting. Addiction is one of the ACE’s as described on the ACE questionnaire. Great information. I’d love to see more about what Iowan’s are experiencing as a whole in regards to risk factors. Always willing to connect!

#PinkOctober #No-oneshouldfacebreastcanceralone #breastcancerawareness The burden of breast cancer is higher in low and middle-income countries (LMIC) where at least half of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage, compared to less than one-fifth in high-income countries (HIC). Late diagnosis poses an increased risk of advanced cancer stages, which results in more limited treatment response and survival rates. Let's raise our voice for greater awareness and improve the early detection of breast cancer. Our collective efforts can bridge inequities and potentially change the course of this disease.
