The post-antibiotic era is already here, and unfortunately, we are seeing this firsthand at Arkstone. However, just because the lab reports a microbe as completely resistant (as in the case of Acinetobacter), it doesn't mean there are no options! Some antibiotics reported as resistant may still have activity, making the traditional lab result misleading to the clinician. Why use ultra-violet light to sterilise? Ultra-violet (UV) light, particularly UV-C light at 253.7nm, is used for sterilization because it is highly effective at destroying the DNA and RNA of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and fungal spores. This disruption prevents them from replicating and causing infections. The Sani 55W Super 16 Duo is a great example of a device that leverages UV-C light for sterilization. It not only sanitizes the air but also deodorizes it by generating ozone, which further enhances its sterilization capabilities. This dual function is particularly useful in environments where both pathogen reduction and odor control are important, such as medical suites, gyms, and food storage areas.
