Pharma's $637 billion problem. The pharmaceutical industry is losing $637 billion annually due to medication non-adherence. That's the equivalent of throwing away the GDP of Switzerland... every single year. The reasons for non-adherence are complex, but one often-overlooked factor is packaging design. A confusing pill bottle, a hard-to-open blister pack, or an uninspiring aesthetic can all contribute to a patient's reluctance to take their medication as prescribed. Here's what the research tells us: - Elderly patients are particularly vulnerable to packaging-related non-adherence, with difficulties in opening and understanding instructions cited as major barriers. (Journal of the American Geriatrics Society) - The World Health Organization recognizes that simplifying packaging is a key strategy to improve adherence. - A report from Healthcare Packaging indicates that intuitive, patient-centric packaging can improve adherence rates by up to 20%. We understand that every medication and every patient population is unique. That's why we offer customized packaging solutions that consider the specific needs of each product and its target audience. Don't let poor packaging design stand in the way of patient well-being and your bottom line. Let us help you turn your packaging into a powerful tool for adherence and success. #patientadherence #pharma #packaging

Spain’s Ministry of Health has released the new Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Royal Decree for public consultation, introducing updated guidelines for evaluating drugs, medical devices, and other health technologies. Here are three key points: 1. Two-Tier Evaluation System: The decree establishes a clear distinction between clinical and non-clinical evaluations, including economic factors. 2. Increased Transparency: Developers must now provide detailed cost data, ensuring that evaluations remain independent of funding decisions. 3. This has to be the future for pharmacy. Community pharmacies have such a unique position and standing within their neighbours and are the most accessible healthcare professional. The same interpersonal and analytical skills applied in hospital, general practice and other settings mean the whole profession has a lot to offer here. I see supporting populations to manage and maintain a healthy weight and other CVD risk factors as being core to this. It should be the substantive part of any future local or national strategy. I understand the need and rationale for a degree of minor ailment, emergency condition management type service, but if that is the long term plan, it risks presenting community pharmacy with the same accessibility problems GPs have now and doesn't play to our strengths. Prevention and pharmaceutical public health is much more sustainable as a service model and is what the country needs to make systemic prevention a reality.
