Pharmatest was excited to join the NK-ENGAGE consortium for a productive face-to-face meeting in Oslo! This ambitious Eurostars and Business Finland -funded R&D project is focused on creating an innovative synthetic small polypeptide for treating multiple myeloma (MM), as well as developing advanced preclinical models in the presence of human immune cells. We are proud to collaborate with a strong alliance of distinguished institutions and biotech firms, including Oncopeptides AB (publ) (Sweden), KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, and Oslo University Hospital. The discussions we had were truly inspiring and highlighted the potential for groundbreaking advancements in MM therapy. Just back from an exhilarating trip to Oslo, and I’m really energized. My colleagues and I had the honour of meeting with some of the brightest minds of the Norwegian life science community, and an evolving biotech startup scene. Thanks to the amazing folks at Oslo Science City we had the opportunity to explore new possibilities for partnerships and cooperation. We had the opportunity to delve into groundbreaking research in genetics and biopharmaceutical innovation like next generation cell therapy for cancer treatment, with key players at the Oslo University Hospital (OUH). The work they are doing focused on patients’ needs is inspiring. And it doesn't stop there! We were given a sneak peek into the future by the Universitetet i Oslo (UiO) | University of Oslo, showcasing their upcoming Life Science Center focusing on novel approaches for achieving precision medicines in Cardiovascular Research and Neuroscience – much aligned with our own R&D strategy. Finally, we had lunch in the iconic Munch room at the Oslo City Hall, exchanging ideas with Norwegian industry and academic leaders, all hosted by Anita Leirvik North, Oslo’s Vice Mayor for Culture and Business. I'm in awe of Oslo's rapidly growing life science ecosystem. The potential for groundbreaking advancements is enormous. My colleagues and I are honored and humbled by the opportunity to join vibrant discussions on current and future landscapes in this field. Reflecting on our journey since acquiring Algeta in 2014, the pioneer in developing Xofigo®, and witnessing Oslo’s dedication to life sciences, I’m more convinced than ever of the vast opportunities for collaboration and innovation. 🎈 The first and only ATMP centre for children in the Nordic countries has been opened at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg! 🎈 ATMP covers medicines based on genes, cells and tissues. These new biological medicines have the potential to revolutionise healthcare with personalised treatments for diseases such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases - and even rare genetic diseases that have previously been incurable. The Gothenburg region has many strengths in ATMP, not least through AstraZeneca, which has a strong focus on regenerative care and ATMP. A number of niche start-ups across the spectrum of possibilities make developments even more exciting, including Cellink, Fluicell and Elicera therapeutics. In addition, a major national centre, CCRM Nordic, is now being built in Gothenburg for the rapid commercialisation of ATMP. 🔬🌱 Exciting Update from the National Conference on Biotechnology! 🔬🌱 I'm thrilled to share that I recently had the privilege to participate in the National Conference on Recent Trends in Biotechnology, organized by the esteemed Society for Progressive Learning and Research. The event was an incredible platform to delve into the latest advancements shaping the future of biotechnology. My contribution centered around the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and its potential in revolutionizing treatment against Blood Cancer. Titled "Current Trends in Artificial Intelligence versus Treatment against Blood Cancer," the presentation explored how AI-powered innovations are reshaping the landscape of medical research and treatment methodologies. In a rapidly evolving field like biotechnology, collaboration and knowledge-sharing are key to driving progress. It was inspiring to engage with fellow researchers, industry experts, and thought leaders at the conference, exchanging insights and ideas that have the potential to drive meaningful change in healthcare. I'm immensely grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a dynamic and forward-thinking event. Inside the patient's body, the pharmaceuticals can seek out and kill cancer cells without significantly affecting healthy cells and tissues. No one wants to destroy what is healthy, and an important feature of these drugs, besides their great potential for greater clinical efficacy, is that they contribute to a less toxic treatment with fewer side effects compared to current treatment methods. - We are pleased to make a follow-up investment in Atley while also bringing in new investors in this round, says Jonas Bergman, Investment Director at Chalmers Ventures.
