Rice crop requires large amounts of water; Therefore, farmers in Indonesia devised a way to benefit from this water. They brought fish and released them in large numbers into the water in which rice was grown, and they gained three benefits: 🌾Fish eat insects, algae, and harmful pests that collect on the soil, and fish feed on plant branches at the same time. 🌾The second benefit is benefiting from fish waste for soil fertility. The third benefit is that the fish itself grows and increases in reasonable quantities (as food for farmers or trade). This movement was known as the "rice/fish culture". After implementing this plan, land production increased by about 20% above the normal limit, in addition to the huge quantities of fish." Over 100 booths will feature regional specialties, processed foods, high-tech agriculture, and OCOP-certified products to promote brand awareness, agricultural models, and eco-tourism integration. 🐉 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 is the largest buyer of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables, their lax quality requirements and unofficial trade channels cause problems like lengthy customs clearance. Stringent procedures in other markets like Europe and the US pose additional challenges for Vietnamese exporters. Despite these difficulties, the vastness of the Chinese market and higher prices offered by Chinese buyers keep them Vietnam's primary destination. However, increasing competition and stricter quality requirements in China necessitate changes in Vietnamese agricultural practices, focusing on meeting technical parameters and diversifying export markets. While some Vietnamese fruits are competitive globally, other vegetables struggle with low domestic consumption. 🇹🇭 Thailand is the top protein producer in Southeast Asia and the only net protein exporter in the whole of Asia. With its existing infrastructure, food manufacturing expertise and reputation as the ‘Kitchen of the World’, Thailand has the potential to become the global hub of sustainable proteins. 💥 Today, we launched a new report with stellar researchers Asia Research & Engagement (ARE) to quantify the economic and environmental benefits for Thailand to diversify its protein production. And the findings are mind-blowing: 👉 Jobs: A 50% plant-based for animal replacement in protein production by 2050 could create up to 1.15 million net jobs in the country. 👉 Economy: Thailand could potentially create THB 1.3 trillion (USD 36.8bn) of economic value, and become more self-sufficient in the process. 👉 Climate:  Thailand would stay within emissions limits recommended by experts for climate safety, saving 35.5 million metric tons of CO2 emissions per year - the equivalent of removing 8.45 million passenger vehicles from the road in the US for a whole year. 👉 Land: Thailand could spare up to 2.17 million hectares of land in 2050 compared to the business-as-usual scenario, an area equivalent to the province of Nakhon Ratchasima. As our Thailand Country Director Wichayapat P. put it: “This report shows that bringing back plants to our hugely-important protein sector is a win-win-win for Thailand: it’s good for jobs, it’s good for our economy and it’s good for the planet.”

With sustainability at the core, Puratos Grand-Place proudly became a sponsor of Cocoa Association of Asia. Gricha Safarian, Managing Director of Puratos Grand-Place Indochina, emphasized the true essence of sustainability in his opening remarks. "Sustainability," Gricha said, "is about growing your business without harming the environment or communities around you. True sustainability means paying for what we use.” For the first time, 16 farmers from eight countries - Malaysia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Côte d'Ivoire, Uganda, Bolivia, and Vietnam - came together in the Farmer Network at the Cocoa Association of Asia (CAA). This initiative was created to give a voice to the people who are often at the heart of the cocoa industry but rarely heard. The farmers discussed six key topics, guided by Selene Scotton: Sustainable Farming Practices, Innovative Technologies and Methods, Climate Change Adaptation, Market Access and Trade, Community Development and Farmer Cooperation, and Regulatory & Compliance. Representing Vietnam were: Ms. Nguyen Hong Thuong, Director of Nhat Tam Cooperative from Dak Lak Province, and Mr. Dong Tien Hung, Director of A1 Cocoa Company from Binh Phuoc Province. Alongside the Puratos Grand-Place team, they actively contributed to the discussions, highlighting Vietnam’s practices in cocoa farming.
