📰 A great, data-rich read from Rachel Moloney. "While the City forms a key part of global firms’ growth agenda, the pool of talent is far smaller and proportionately it is therefore but a tiny part of the machine. The data shows that of the 20 firms tallied, 383 lawyers have been promoted to partner in the UK since 2021. This makes up just 12 per cent of the firms’ elevation numbers worldwide, again highlighting the dominance of the US in global decision-making."

✈️ As featured in the latest edition of The Passport, I recently attended an appraisal, hosted at Fieldfisher X's Berlin office, of the ECJ's decision to uphold the ban on third party ownership of law firms in Germany. While third party ownership has been allowed in the UK since the Legal Services Act (LSA) of 2007, the debate is alive and kicking in Germany 👊 💥 🙅♂️ Vehemently against the ECJ's decision were reps of legal insurers, legal tech and companies that already own shares of law firms in the UK. While all these parties would profit from the ban being lifted, they argue that the wider German legal profession would also benefit in terms of e.g. more funding for legal tech and innovation 🤑 👍 Arguing in support the decision were reps of the German Bar Association (BRAK), who conducted a poll among lawyers practicing in Germany which suggests that the majority also support the decision.
