Day 90 - Food Safety Knowledge Sharing Food Labelling Understanding the Nutritional Information Part 4 4. The Percent Daily Value (%DV) The % Daily Value (%DV) is the percentage of the Daily Value for each nutrient in a serving of the food. The Daily Values are reference amounts (expressed in grams, milligrams, or micrograms) of nutrients to consume or not to exceed each day. The %DV shows how much a nutrient in a serving of a food contributes to a total daily diet. The %DV helps you determine if a serving of food is high or low in a nutrient. Do you need to know how to calculate percentages to use the %DV? No, because the label (the %DV) does the math for you! It helps you interpret the nutrient numbers (grams, milligrams, or micrograms) by putting them all on the same scale for the day (0-100%DV). The %DV column doesn't add up vertically to 100%. Instead, the %DV is the percentage of the Daily Value for each nutrient in a serving of the food. It can tell you if a serving of food is high or low in a nutrient and whether a serving of the food contributes a lot, or a little, to your daily diet for each nutrient. Note: some nutrients on the Nutrition Facts label, like total sugars and trans fat, do not have a %DV – they will be discussed later. #food #foodlabelling #foodlabel #labelpadege #readfoodlabel #readlabel #foodsafety #foodquality #fooddefense #foodfraud

What is Food? Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for the body. It is usually of plant or animal origin and contains essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Food is ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism's cells to provide energy, maintain life, or stimulate growth. What is Food Safety? Food safety refers to the conditions and practices that preserve the quality of food to prevent contamination and foodborne illnesses. It encompasses a range of measures to ensure that food is handled, prepared, and stored in a way that prevents harmful bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens from causing illness. Key aspects of food safety: Proper Handwashing: Ensures that food handlers do not transfer pathogens to food. Safe Cooking Temperatures: Ensures that harmful organisms are killed during food preparation. Avoiding Cross-Contamination: Prevents pathogens from spreading between different foods and surfaces. What is Food Quality? Food quality refers to the attributes and characteristics of food that are acceptable to consumers. This includes the food's appearance, texture, flavor, and nutritional content. High food quality ensures that food products meet customer expectations and regulatory standards. Key aspects of food quality: Freshness: Indicates that the food is at its peak flavor and nutritional value. Consistency: Ensures that each product meets set standards of quality. Nutritional Value: Provides essential nutrients in appropriate amounts. Ensuring food safety and maintaining food quality are crucial for consumer health and satisfaction. 🥛 Thinking about trying raw milk? According to Sam Martin, Jr., food safety expert at Microbac, the risks outweigh the benefits. While raw milk may contain more nutrients, pasteurization doesn't significantly reduce the nutritional value. “The mineral content is virtually unchanged because minerals are stable at pasteurization temperatures,” says Martin. But raw milk can harbor harmful microorganisms like e. coli, listeria, and salmonella, making it a potential health hazard, especially for vulnerable groups. Play it safe and stick with pasteurized options. ✅ Learn more from HuffPost: https://lnkd.in/ed3CfrNf #FoodSafety #RawMilk #HealthyLiving #Pasteurization #DairySafety

Best Practices for Storing Frozen Vegetables – Ensuring Freshness and Quality When it comes to storing frozen vegetables, maintaining the best quality is essential for both taste and nutrition. Here are some tips to ensure your frozen vegetables stay fresh: Keep the Right Temperature: Frozen vegetables should always be stored at a constant temperature of -18°C (0°F) or lower. This ensures they stay frozen and preserves their freshness, taste, and nutritional value. Proper storage temperature is key to maintaining quality throughout the supply chain. Avoid Frequent Thawing and Refreezing: Repeatedly thawing and refreezing vegetables can negatively affect their texture and taste. To preserve their quality, store them properly in sealed containers and only thaw the amount you need at a time. This helps maintain their optimal texture and flavor. At Comtrue Foods, we specialize in high-quality frozen vegetables and fruits. With over 20 years of experience, we ensure premium quality, efficient supply, and globally recognized certifications like HACCP and ISO.
