Catalysts are commonly used in industrial processes, including food manufacturing, to optimize manufacturing speed and yield. Catalysis (the action of a catalyst) can also be used to alter chemical compounds in order to minimize their impact on production processes, the environment and human well-being. They can be used for a variety of tasks including hydrogenation, fuel desulfurization (also known as mercaptan oxidation process) and plastic (PVC) manufacturing.
