What a first year in recruitment 🤯!!! I joined William James Consultants in January 2023. No one knew what a tough year in recruitment that would have proven to be. Having joined in such a tough year for the recruitment industry, I do truly believe this has put me in a great place for the coming years. Joining at a particularly tough time for the industry and business, it has taught me to be extremely resilient. Being able to refine key skills and processes within a difficult period will certainly make it easier moving forward. Fortunately, I'm already seeing this to be true, billing the same amount I did in the whole of last year within the first 3 months of this year! Frustrated with engaging a retained search firm only to have the Partner who sold the project fade away as the search progresses? When I enter the discovery phase of the engagement process with CHRO’s and VP’s of HR I ask a simple question…. What has been their experience working with retained search in the past? Generally, HR leaders have had mixed experiences which is not uncommon given the wide variety of firms to choose from and delivery mechanisms. One of the most common themes I heard is that after 3-4 weeks after launching the project the Partner who sold the project begins to offload the work to more junior staff and likely focus on rainmaking. From my experience the Partner brings an invaluable amount of assessment expertise to the process which is why you hired them and therefore should stay engaged throughout the project to ensure the client interviews only the best and brightest candidates.
