The Black Men's Health Clinic® (BMHC) sent BMHC Senior Director of Operations, Dr. Larry Wallace Jr., PhD., BMHC Behavioral Health Specialist Ashley Coria, and Criminal Justice and Participatory Defense Organizer, Robert Lilly to share BMHC's perspective on how we support individuals in the community who have transitioned from the criminal justice system into everyday life at the Global Reentry Vision Summit: The Alpha and Omega, held on Wednesday, November 6th, in Austin. This dynamic trio informed the attendees about how our comprehensive services support reentry transition from a physical, mental, and social determinants of health perspective. -------------------- Dr. Larry Wallace said, "We are ‘right there in the room' to help make the step to schedule the appointment, provide insight, and guidance on the actual journey of physical, medical, and mental care." Ashley Coria shared our services and stated, "It's about building that trust, breaking those barriers, and opening up a safe space to have difficult conversations that normally and culturally would be taboo to provide better care." Robert Lilly asserted, "We must look at addiction as a social health problem, a public health problem. I believe that the Black Men's Health Clinic is leading us in that direction and deserves our ear." If you, or anyone you know, need services, be sure to SCHEDULE an Appointment with BMHC HERE: https://lnkd.in/g_GFfMYu Thank you again to Dr. Larry Wallace Jr., Ashley Coria, and Robert Lilly! #blackmenshealthclinic #BMHC #CareYouCanTrust #blackmen #blackhealth
Outstanding work! I’m a current student studying your organization for a school project. This is the kind of news and focus that makes me believe in the world!
Empowering formerly incarcerated individuals through education and community collaboration
4wThank you #BlackMensHealthClinic for including my unique voice in this very important conversation. Heath and Re-entry go hand-in-hand. Prisons are carcinogenic, in the way smoking can cause cancer. We have a duty, as a society to support those who return home to us, in finding their proper homeostasis. Without institutions like the BMHC that are thinking outside “the box”-pun intended, there will be an increase in the numbers of those we love whose last sight we have of them will be in a pine box. Public Health is Public Safety.
