Electronic waste… How good are you at recycling yours? In today’s throwaway culture, “e-waste” is reaching record highs globally. According to the United Nations Global e-Waste Monitor, in 2022 the world generated 62 million metrics tonnes of electric waste. From old mobile phones, broken white goods and discarded e-cigarettes, globally, electronic waste is outstripping recycling rates. So, what’s the answer… ♻️ Do we need to become less reliant of electronics? ♻️ Or do we need to improve our recycling processes? With most e-waste ending up in landfills, perhaps it is manufacturers who need to take more accountability for their products at their end of life. But ultimately what’s needed, is a shakeup in e-waste management and disposal… ♻️ Enabling materials to be extracted and reused. ♻️ Reducing the need to extract new raw materials. ♻️ And e-waste legislation to enforce this movement. If you want to understand your business’ impact on our environment, get in touch now… 📩 #Sustainability #ClimateChange #EWaste

Today, October 14, marks World E-Waste Day, which highlights one of the most significant environmental challenges in the age of modern technology: electronic waste. Electronic waste (E-Waste) is the remains of electronic equipment and devices, such as smartphones, computers, televisions, home appliances, and batteries, that have reached the end of their useful life or become unusable. With the advancement of technology and the increase in consumption rates, electronic waste has become a major environmental concern. Statistics indicate that the volume of e-waste globally ranges from 20 to 50 million tons annually. This number is expected to double with ongoing technological innovations and society's growing reliance on smart devices. The increase in e-waste is due to various factors, including the constant need to upgrade devices and develop new technology, as well as an excessive consumption trend and the dependence on electronics in daily life. As an institution working in the field of environmental protection, climate change and recycling solid waste, including electronic waste, which is one of the environmental challenges due to its great danger to human health and the environment due to its containing hazardous materials, such as mercury, lead, cadmium, and chemicals used in the manufacture of electronic circuits, as well as the danger of these materials if they leak into the soil and water, as these materials cause air pollution when burned, and we seek to work on solutions and procedures to reduce electronic waste to mitigate the negative effects of electronic waste, including recycling components of electronic devices to use them in manufacturing new products, as well as spreading awareness among consumers about the importance of managing electronic waste responsibly and disposing of it through approved recycling centers, encouraging reuse or donating it to people or institutions that may need it instead of disposing of it, which extends the life of the devices and reduces the volume of waste. International E-Waste Day reminds us all of the importance of sustainably managing this waste to protect both the environment and human health. Through cooperation between governments, companies, and individuals, the harmful environmental and health effects of electronic waste can be reduced, building a more sustainable future for us and for future generations. #International_E_Waste_Day #ACL_SOCOTRA
