Really proud to have worked with a fantastic group of young carers and young adult carers from across the country on this brand new Carers Trust report about young carers and their education. It combines insights from young carers, teachers, young carer services and parents with a deep-dive into analysis of Department for Education data on the school census and absence. Some of the headlines: - Young carers missed on average 23 days of school a year in 2022-23 - that's over a month of their education - Almost half of secondary-aged young carers (46%) were persistently absent (missing at least a day of school a fortnight) - Almost half of young carers (48%) reported that they had been bullied in the past year - Around 1 in 4 young carers (23%) said there is 'no support at all' for young carers in their school, college or university - Fewer than half of teachers (46%) agreed their school provides the support that young carers need If you work in education/education policy, or know anyone who does, please do share this report with them.
