Dr. John Venn, the inventor of the Venn Diagram, created this engineering contraption. 🔍 Key Insights: 1️⃣ A Historical Masterpiece: Using patent illustrations and an old photograph found online, Cambridge engineers brought the 2-metre tall contraption back to life with materials available over 120 years ago. Natural grass (NG) pitches have come a long way during the past 15 years. The big game-changer? 𝗛𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀! These combine NG with artificial fibres to stabilise sand-based soils for ultimate durability. These pitches have become the norm for stadiums and now also training grounds. Do these modern pitches affect injury rates? The more we can understand the effects the surfaces have on the players, the more knowledge grounds and performance staff can have to produce optimal surfaces and better help players prepare. We do know that surfaces are not the only variable which impacts the player, but it is an important piece of the complicated puzzle of player well-being and performance.
