Is Patreon the future of non-league football? In recent years we've seen the emergence of clubs like Hashtag United and SE Dons who have led the way in showing NL clubs how they can promote themselves to a wider audience. Following on from that we've seen Farnham Town invest in the excellent NL Diaries series which has raised the level and profile of the club. Add to that, Youtube channels dedicated to groundhopping like Footy Adventures, AwayDays etc which regularly get over 100k views per video suggests their is a real appetite for grassroots football content. So why aren't the clubs themselves following Farnham Town's lead and creating professional quality content? It is largely budget related but also a lack of modern thinking at the club's helm. Creating content can be costly but should be seen as investment in growing the club both locally and nationally. With forward thinking owners they should also be looking to use it for commercial gain, more eyes on them means more sponsorship opportunities. But for me the real opportunity lies in utilising Patreon and offering fans exclusive content and access to the club in exchange for supporting the club for the price of a coffee a month. Dundalk FC set up a patreon during covid and is now one of their largest revenue streams. Every NL team should be looking at this and looking to replicate it. #football #patreon #socialmedia #marketing #nonleague

Sport and Community Engagement go hand in hand. But on the surface it doesn't seem apparent. Dig down and at every level of sport there is a need and a desire for more and better community engagement. While sometimes not in the traditional sense, as can be very event based, even at these events so much engagement can be achieved more than just kicking, hitting or shooting a ball, puck... urm shuttlecock for the first time. Take a look at this blog I wrote last year - https://lnkd.in/gkwRKfrN What's nice with digital engagement platforms like Social Pinpoint is we see council customers engage in many sporting projects like ovals, clubs and facilities of which many are quite fun. What is really great is when those projects have such an influence on a sporting club or organisation involved that they want their own platform to engage their communities. Check out how Netball Victoria have launched Engage NV, to foster connection and collaboration across clubs, associations and leagues within their local areas and with Netball Victoria. https://lnkd.in/gnxEuw3C #communityengagement #digitalengagement #netball #sport

Odense Boldklub (OB), one of Denmark's historic football clubs, have faced significant challenges on the field in recent years, culminating in relegation last season. Yet, the club have managed to achieve remarkable commercial success despite these sporting setbacks. Odense Boldklub’s commercial director, Jack Jørgensen, shares the strategies that have turned these challenges into victories. 1: How did OB achieve commercial success despite poor on-field performance? In 2018, OB shifted its focus from relying on sporting results to enhancing the fan experience and community engagement. This strategic pivot included initiatives like creating a talent program for young entrepreneurs, opening matchday fanzones with local music and food, and developing targeted marketing campaigns. These efforts increased matchday revenue by 160% and significantly boosted season ticket sales and attendance. 2: What role did community engagement play in OB’s strategy? OB worked to strengthen its connection with the local community in Odense. The club engaged residents within a 5 km radius of the stadium, promoted local talents through initiatives like Start OB, and involved educational institutions to attract young fans. 3: How has OB enhanced the stadium experience to attract more spectators? Recognizing that football alone was not enough to draw crowds, OB developed innovative stadium experiences tailored to different audience groups. The club segmented the matchday experience to cater to families, hardcore fans, and young people. This festival-like atmosphere has made attending games more appealing, even when the team’s on-field performance has been lacking. #Partnership #Broadcasting #SportsBusiness #Commercial #Sponsorship #Football #SportsBiz #Finance #People #Data #Tech #Intelligence #Investment

Lessons from the Non-League. How do you transform a football club off the field in just 18 months? Club Director Harry Hugo is making big changes at Farnham Town Football Club. "It's a business, rather than just a football club... we are trying to build an entertainment brand that plays football twice a week." 🏟️ Infrastructure changes, such as the position of the filming gantry, the orientation of stands and viewing areas and additional supporter-focused amenities such as the Mystery Kitchen. 💵 Incremental fan spending targets on merchandise, food and drinks help to increase the revenues needed to make a sustainable football club. 🖥️ Placing high importance on social media to drive whole week-long engagement and interest. 🥇⚽ Similar to a clubs Ethos, I always look for a clubs Vision and Mission, but whats the difference? The VISION should be to help develop football, both Commercially & Operationally, across the club through better Education & Opportunities in football management and strategies across the club. The MISSION should be to working with other clubs, the Federation & Association as well as the clubs coaches, scouts, fans & other stakeholders. Striving always to better Marketing, Social Media, Sponsors, Communications, Safeguarding, Community Relations, Fan Engagement, Technology, Education, Tournaments, Leagues, Talent ID and more to ensure the club always moves forward. The ETHOS should be to deliver honest, transparent, accountable, dedicated & qualified services to all stakeholders. Whats your thoughts? #football #soccer #FOOTBALLBUSINESS #education #footballcareer #harcuscg #richardharcus #clubdevelopment #footballvision #missionstatement #stakeholderengagement #communityimpact #teamculture #sportsmanagement #youthdevelopment #fanexperience #digitalmarketing
